You're having a picky tea tonight...what's on your plate?

I've gone for a random selection of frozen party food that's open & being ignored - chicken bites, mini pizza, couple of cheesy jalepeno things, little taco type things & mini pasties. The other two tiny pizzas are earmarked for lunch tomorrow, unless I get a better offer (aka school dinner).

What would be on your picky plate?

When I’m Queen everyone who says ‘picky tea’ will be imprisoned.

In France we call it apéro dînatoire and it’s completely acceptable as a meal especially at the weekend.

bread and salty butter
cheese
terrine / pâté / charcuterie
nice crisps
Sausage rolls made with knack sausages, mustard, puff pastry
gyoza / teriyaki
pizza cut in squares
home made hummus or baba ganoush

katsu chicken bites, dirty fries, cherry tomatoes, Greek salad, mini steak pies, M&S green goddess dip plus mini pitta bread.

FusionChefGeoff · 20/01/2026 22:23

I had a very healthy picky plate tonight - some cooked chicken breast, celery sticks, cucumber sticks and some (not so healthy but very tasty!) cheese and chive dip to dunk it all in

hahagogomomo · 20/01/2026 22:29

Antipasti selection especially those peppers stuffed with goats cheese, artichokes and olives, then hummus, flat bread of some kind (ideally homemade focaccia but I’ll make do with that Lebanese bread from Asda) perhaps cured meat platter too. Yum

madaboutpurple · 20/01/2026 22:34

Gala pie or a Scotch egg
Salad
chicken leg
then pavlova.

Pixiedust49 · 20/01/2026 22:37

Bread, good butter, cheese, grapes, wine. That’s it.

Jungfraujoch · 20/01/2026 22:39

Last night I had some naice ham, tomato sprinkled with black pepper , strong cheddar and a handful of almonds. 😁.

Blood from my eyes where they're hurting from reading 'picky tea'.

And pickled onions with all and everything.

Cheese

Toe jam and bogies. Ugh. Bit of earwax on the side.

ArmySurplusHamster · 20/01/2026 22:55

Shot, please.

TorridAntelope · 20/01/2026 22:57

The souls of people who say "picky tea".

Barbecued because cold food for dinner sucks.

meepmeeprr2025 · 20/01/2026 23:02

Ha ha - I’ve never heard of a picky tea before 😂

PinterandPirandello · 20/01/2026 23:16

Now I fancy cheese cubes and pineapple on sticks - will have that tomorrow.
I like a thin sourdough baguette cut into thin slices, nice cheddar, chorizo slices, Serrano ham, chopped melon, little pink picked onions, rough meat pate, cornichons, nice fig chutney and a simple green and tomato salad. Washed down with a French rose or some cold cava.

Happy2026 · 20/01/2026 23:20

I like a greek style ‘picky tea’ 😁:

flat bread
tzatziki
tomatoes with salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinegar
halloumi

For a more English style picky tea there has to be sausage rolls involved.

Rainbow1235 · 20/01/2026 23:27

Pate and cucumber on crackers . Yum

MsSmartShoes · 20/01/2026 23:34

Crudités, Brie, Hummus, dough balls, olives, saucisson sec, cornichons, smoked cheddar, salt crackers, artichokes, griddled courgettes.

patooties · 20/01/2026 23:39

I love this meal but we call it ‘party tea’ I also would t have that amount of crap in my freezer to snack on ! I’d need a trip to Iceland which rather ruins the ‘whatever is to hand to eat that can be shovelled into gob in front of the tv’.

mine would be hummus, crisps, pickles, ham, cheese and pate, nice bread.

GaIadriel · 20/01/2026 23:41

Nice crisps with some caramelised onion houmous then maybe some fajitas. Or maybe a European style meal with nice bread, olives, cheese, cold meats, etc.
