The mind boggles.

Why aren't you there?

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 20/01/2026 09:33

You’d think he’d have other things on his mind today of all days.

Backs up what BB says; all about the show.

zurigo · 20/01/2026 09:34

God knows! He certainly knows fuck all about global finance and I can't think he'll add much to the discussions. I suspect it's about networking and photo ops as that's the Beckham MO.

SilenceInside · 20/01/2026 09:34

Well, he's personally very wealthy. He is a previous winner of one of their charitable awards, he is culturally known across the world, he attracts a lot of media attention, he personally knows a lot of the other people that will be attending. I think he falls under the heading of "cultural luminaries" on the description of who will be attending from the Davos WEF website:

He was probably already in Davos when Brooklyn posted on Instagram.

My theory about celebs is that most of them are broke! - surely the Beckhams don’t need to be in the media like this otherwise?? 🤷‍♀️

Alicorn1707 · 20/01/2026 10:04

Have never really understood the scathing negativity of people against any person who has worked damned hard and achieved so much.......oh wait!

I think it gets a bit addictive, and gives some sort of validation.

TheMorgenmuffel · 20/01/2026 10:05

Having him there gets the media talking about the event, therefore raising awareness?

He’s a ‘global advocate for children’s rights’?!

Goodness.

I know what you mean. Even in her 80s, Joan Collins talked about the anxiety to be sure you have your next gig lined up ...

If your whole existence is being a sleb, you've got to hustle every day to keep up your notariety so that you'll be in with a chance for ad campaigns.

So why is DB in Davos - it's a 'rich tossers' conference, innit ... Didn't Prince Harry go last year? or the year before? Rich people like to meet slebs too.

I buy that. It’s basically free advertising and he gets a higher profile. Prince W will probably make an appearance at some point.

It’s the high spend lifestyle. They need the money to keep coming - so they are not broke by an average persons standard but a lot of their wealth will be locked up - it’s the disposable spendable wealth they need to keep accumulating

Serpentstooth · 20/01/2026 10:17

Maybe he's hunting a FIFA peace prize too now that he's got his 'fucking knighthood' and is just schmoozing contacts for the future. Or maybe he's just feeling a bit like King Lear.

maudelovesharold · 20/01/2026 10:29

Yes, having the likes of David Beckham show up is a great way to encourage people to focus on the global challenges facing us all, rather than celebrity gossip and speculation!

Yes, indeed. We're all now reflecting on the global markets and security.

He’s hiding.

Not broke, but they have a lifestyle to maintain, Beckhams are running homes in how many expensive cities? They need to keep the money pot bubbling I think, the sadder truth could be that maybe they need the media attention at some level, IMO that is pretty tragic.
