Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after a nice lie in with boy cat. The cats have been fed & all is quiet so I'm guessing they've gone back to bed.

I'm not sure if dd2's up yet - I did hear some movement but it's all quiet again now 🤔.

I'll pop the washer on, scoop the litter box, and wash the few pots there are shortly, then head up to get dressed. I'm off into town with dd2 to do some birthday shopping for dd1 - not entirely sure what to get her this year. She's very into music/gigs if anyone has any ideas? I also need to check whether the perfume she likes is back in stock online - Boots only stock the £70 bottle according to dd and that's most of her budget gone if I buy that.

When we get home, my dad's calling with some cat litter he picked up for me, then I'l think about tea. Maybe chicken wraps, but we do need to pick up fresh salad if we have those. Might nip to the market actually!

I do need to decide how to reply to the electrician who thought almost midnight was an ok time to text asking if they can come and do a repair on Monday - I expected to be disturbed by dd1 letting me know she was home safely in London, not someone wanting to do a repair! Not happy about that at all 😡.

This evening I think I'll have a nice long soak in the bath maybe, with one of my Christmas bath bombs and my book. Dd2 will probably do some more homework so she has less to do in the week and can spend her time revising ready for the next GCSE mocks.

What about all of you? 🙂

Have been food shopping just had lunch avocado and eggs on sourdough.

About to get ready to go and do a 2-10 shift at work . Looking forward to my day off tomorrow.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

@Judgejudysno1fan - cramping and a headache doesn’t sound good at 24 weeks. Take care of yourself. Resting might be an idea. And maybe checking with your hospital?

@OnlyOneAdda - that brunch sounds great. That might be my lunch. Minus the spinach as I don’t have any….

I woke up just after 8 which is late for me so that was nice. Got up and had tea and did my puzzles. Had some bread and honey for breakfast. With more tea.

Did some pottering upstairs to collect jeans from various bedrooms for a jeans wash. Emptied dishwasher. Jeans wash is on. Need to change a bed too. And wash a couple of jumpers.

DS and I are going to look at cars later. We need to replace our 15 year old car and DH doesn’t want to come for some reason. He seems to be approaching it a bit like ordering something on Amazon. We have an idea of what we want and he has done on-line research but says I need to sit in them to see what it’s like. He is full of a cold so it’s best he doesn’t come. But I might just come home having bought a Porsche. 😀

I also need to pick up a JL parcel from Waitrose which I was supposed to do yesterday. Went to Waitrose and did the shopping but forgot the bloody parcel!

I have a couple of bits I need to do around the house so I’ll try and tick a few of them off. Then I want to sit and read my book for a bit. Dinner is some sort of chicken curry with rice. We have one episode of the Traitors to watch tonight to get up to date.

Morning all. Quite a nice morning here so I'm going to grab a coffee and my big coat and sit outside. I'm very much not getting enough light and it's affecting my energy levels considerably. Quite a few errands and things to do today but will try to approach it in a spirit of gentleness as the first 2 weeks of the year have been pretty brutal! Might go to a board game event later with DS then I'd like to work on my jigsaw with a glass of wine. Dinner is an already made Syrian aubergine stew with flatbread and I'll griddle some halloumi to accompany it. Then a couple of episodes of The Rookie with my knitting. Have a lovely day everyone!

That sounds delicious - would you mind PMing me the recipe? Love aubergine!

DilemmaDelilah · 17/01/2026 11:58

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. @SeasickSusan I totally agree, being ill is a horrible waste of the weekend! @MarmaladeSandwich7 we actually had a discussion in the car yesterday about food waste, as our area has recently rolled out food waste bins. We have realised we put very little food into our food waste bin - mainly because all the uncooked vegetable and fruit trimmings go in the compost, any stale bread, biscuits and anything else we think they will eat goes out for the birds and the squirrels and I'm really good at doing things with leftovers! It doesn't mean there is never any food waste - just a lot less than I thought there would be.

I woke up at 2.30 after going to bed and to sleep much earlier than usual. I stayed awake until 9.30 this morning hoping to catch your post @lucysmam but I see it is time-stamped 9.42 so I just missed you, and then I woke up around half an hour ago. I had an interesting (and tiring) day yesterday. I'm still palpitatory, so I can't do much at the moment anyway, but Toby carvery had a £6 offer on so we had planned on going out to lunch. Then in the morning I had a call from the hospital offering me a cardiology appointment in the afternoon (I rang my cardiac specialist nurse on Monday). So we went to lunch, then home, then back out to the hospital. It was nice to have a face to face appointment for once! The upshot is that I have a combination of persistent atrial fibrillation and atrial tachycardia at the moment and it doesn't seem to be resolving. So I have been put on some additional medication, I will be offered an appointment for cardioversion (zapping) in the next couple of weeks (which I can cancel if I feel better) and I'm on the list for cardiac ablation.
the best thing that happened yesterday is that Mr Dilemma booked our holiday! Or the main part of it anyway. We're going on a 5 night mini cruise from Portsmouth to Guernsey, the Isles of Scilly, Falmouth and back to Dover. We will also be staying in some nice hotel on the way there, and the way back, but he hasn't booked any hotels or decided on the route yet. I have helped by finding a couple of nice hotels for our journey there, but I'm not booking them and I'm not going to do anything about planning our journey back. I have flatly refused because I am sick and tired of doing all the arranging for everything.

So - all that was yesterday. Today I'm supervising the making of the stew.... Mr Dilemma has chopped up the vegetables so I'm about to go and look at the ratios and tell him what to do next. He is actually quite a good cook ... but it wouldn't be the same if he made it without supervision (think huge chunks of vegetable when I like bite size chunks) and he is OK with it thank goodness. I would do it myself but I can't stand for long at the moment. I could have chopped up the vegetables sitting down, but he is so pleased to have been helpful.

I'm not planning on doing anything else. It was very grey first thing this morning but it is lovely and sunny now and it is a shame not to be going out in the sunshine, but I don't have the energy at the moment.

Had a bit of a lie in
Did a tour of the local charity shops but didn’t buy anything
Currently waiting for DD in a coffee shop then we are going for a swim, sauna, steam room and thermal pool afternoon at our local gym
I’ve got a bit of a cold so hoping that will help

MrsTulip · 17/01/2026 12:09

Assignment writing and laundry is the plan of action here. Just having a break for lunch and will put another load of laundry on before cracking on with the next bit of this assignment.

Good morning Lucysmam and others. Except it's Good afternoon. I had two coffees when I got up and put the whites in the tumble dryer. Then a cuppa and two small slices of toast before a shower. The bed is stripped and everything put in the washing machine. Then I headed out for second breakfast at the local garden centre with a pal. We encountered dd, dsil and the boys who were also there. I drove my friend home and have put the washing machine on. I'm about to have a cuppa then start the housework. Tesco will deliver later so dinner will probably be salmon. Enjoy your day all

zingally · 17/01/2026 12:38

I was up and out by 8:30 for an appointment at 9:20 for a replacement iphone battery...
Call me crazy, but with 3 confirmation emails and a text, you'd think they'd actually have the battery in stock, wouldn't you?
Nope.
The guy just gave me his card and told me to phone on Wednesday to see if they've got any in stock and we'll try again next weekend. Not an ENTIRELY wasted trip, as I'd wanted to go and buy some new slippers anyway... But still, frustrating and a poor system.

Then popped round to a friends house quickly to deliver a present for her child's birthday tomorrow.

Then went to the garden centre to get some seed potatoes for this years crop. :)

Plan now is a quick lunch and then mop the floors. A lazy rest of the weekend ahead. No plans, so I'll likely put a film on tonight and spend some time with my book.

Megsdaughter · 17/01/2026 12:40

Up at 8 oclock, DH was already up and had put a white wash on so I made him another coffe while i waited fir wash to finish then swapped it to the dryer.
DH then stripped the bed, I cant manage that as have a Lupus and Fibromyalgia and it hurts to much.
I put the bedding into wash. DH showered then went to Morrisons to do the weekly shop. Anyone elses DH love food shopping? I havnt done it since before lockdown! Admitedly my mobility isnt great but he happily goes off to do it.
Showred abd dried my hair, which as its inly an inch long just means a rub with a towel 😄
Wiped the kitchen surfaces, put the dishwasher on then had a banana, satsuma and some strawberries. I' m on WLI and find it hard to eat in the morning so content myself with fruit.
DH back and I've helped him unload the shopping then he made veg soup for lunch.
Now I'm lying on the sofa mumsnetting and debating whether to do some knitting. I am knitting poppies for the village project. We need about 6000. They are going to cascade from the church tower on 11th November.
Tea is lamb chops which DH is cooking, tgen I will do the dishwasher, wash and get into my PJs.
TV tonight will be last nights Top of the Pops on BBC 4. We always watch it on a Friday, but Traitors has to be watched at the moment.
Then early to bed with my audio book.

JacknDiane · 17/01/2026 12:44

You've got a good one there @Megsdaughter

Sortalike · 17/01/2026 12:51

Had a lie in because I've had this rotten cold, but I'm blitzing the lounge because my DH & DD are filthy beasts. I'm also decluttering like a demon- that's an ongoing project so I'm being brutal.

DH & DD have done the food shop, Ddog is equally cross and pleased with me. I found several tennis balls under the sofa (yay!), but because the throws are in the wash he's not allowed up on the sofa (boo!)

DilemmaDelilah · 17/01/2026 12:57

@Megsdaughter Mr Dilemma loves shopping of any kind, but especially food shopping! He has made the stew for our supper tonight, while I sat down and chopped up the remaining celery and some sad carrots into teeny tiny bits for soffrito to put in the freezer. He is currently making me a ham salad for lunch and watching that the stock I am making out of the better vegetable scraps doesn't boil over. I expect I will use it in soup tomorrow.

We have good other halves don't we!

Megsdaughter · 17/01/2026 13:17

Yes, DH is brilliant. I used to be a 60 hr a week childminder, but had to retire at 60 when things got worse.
As i have got worse and can do less he just takes over and works shifts as a Prison Officer. Dont know what i would do without him.

Posted early on the thread. Loving seeing everyone's updates and thinking how normal it makes me feel to not be having busy Instagram weekends all the time.
