Question for nurses

If you are a nurse, especially if you work in a care home do you know what a volvulus is without googling?

@Lackinghope sorry to see this update, I hope if this is the end it is as peaceful as possible for you all.

I thought I was prepared for this it's been a 2 year steady decline but it's really hit me hard.

Thinking of you @Lackinghope. I found that even if expected and you think you’re prepared, it’s still feels like a shock and still feels “sudden”, it’s hard for me to explain, sorry.

In my case, I was also hoping for it to be quicker and finally over for my relative’s sake and felt a sense of relief (as well as grief and sadness, obviously). The nurses said this is common, I was unprepared for how drawn out the very very end was (as in we were expecting 2 days at the end, it took 5). It’s a hard thing to deal with, so I will think of you and your family.

There is no preparation for this.

Thinking of you @Lackinghope it’s such a hard, horrible, emotional and exhausting time. Sending you strength and wishing things are as kind and gentle as possible for you and your Mum

Mum passed away earlier today, we were with her until the end.
