My father in law would like my partner and I to go on a Nile cruise. I’ve tried researching as he las limited mobility in he can’t manage stairs and even the itinerary from tui says it’s not suitable.
my partner is adamant he wants to take him and was just looking for someone who has actually done this cruise for more info

@Tillygan60 who did you book through ? For what reasons did you find it unsuitable for mobility issues? What would it be like if you stayed on the boat the whole time and didn’t do excursions?
Is getting on to the boat accessible?

Access to boat is via a steep plank- like walkway, impossible in a wheelchair. Boats are often docked side by side, we had to walk across 3 other boats one day to access our boat.
Stairs everywhere, steep flight of steps to/ from dining room, difficult to climb even for people with excellent mobility!
Tiny bathrooms, impossible for wheelchairs.
Booked direct with Tui...boat is 30 plus years old and not at all disability friendly.

My step dad actually died after a Nile Cruise a few years back. He was pretty unwell to start with (no idea how they got insurance as he’d already been flown home from one cruise). He ended up in an awful hospital in the arse and of nowhere with my mum in a really remote hotel until he was stable enough to be flown home (he died at our local hospital a few weeks later). It was all pretty grim so I would personally avoid if there’s any chance of ill health.

How would he get from his cabin to the restaurant deck?

Tillygan60 · 24/01/2026 08:32

He wouldn't even be able to get onto the boat, let alone get to the restaurant!!

My fil and son are doing it although not booked it yet. They are both adamant that that’s what he wants to do. I’m definitely not going. I’ve given all scenarios and what ifs but it’s falling on deaf ears. So off they must go!

thank you all for your suggestions. Very much appreciated.

Let’s hope they enjoy in their own way, and you can relax at home!
