Do you believe human life will cease to exist one day?

I do

Whether it be via disease, war, global warming, or simply something else, I honestly believe humans will cease to exist. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. We are a plague on this planet

Of course. No species lasts forever.

HermioneWeasley · 09/01/2026 20:48

Yes

HumerousHumous · 09/01/2026 20:48

Yes, I think so and likely an asteroid.

Well yes, of course. We are just one species among many, nothing special.

Notmymarmosets · 09/01/2026 20:49

Of course. Even if we continue to evolve our descendants will eventually be unrecognisable.

Zov · 09/01/2026 20:50

Oh for goodness sake. 🙄 Every few months this same subject comes up on here.. Humans are so awful, so bad, so evil, vermin, a plague.....

Well I'm not, and neither is anyone I know. Humans aren't going anywhere any time soon. Sorry and all that.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 09/01/2026 20:50

It might seem bleak but I kind of hope so. I find the state of the world increasingly depressing, especially what humans are doing to each other and the planet.

CalmShaker · 09/01/2026 20:50

It depends, on this planet without doubt as the sun is finite and we are on course to merge with another galaxy in so many million or billion years.
It is what we do in that period I guess and if we can take the human race elsewhere

Really?! I’ve been on here 10 years and never seen this question asked 🫣

ElizabethsTailor · 09/01/2026 20:53

Well, yes obviously.

Although I also think most people are quite nice, and as a species we are over time trending towards being more collaborative, benevolent and kind.

Damnd · 09/01/2026 20:55

Yeh, check out Brian Cox's Fermi Paradox

RaininSummer · 09/01/2026 20:56

Definitely. We will probably wipe ourselves out.

Monvelo · 09/01/2026 20:57

Oh of course, I mean the whole planet as we know it will cease at some point... It's just a question of when, how, whether it's of our own making...

ElizabethsTailor · 09/01/2026 20:57

Damnd · 09/01/2026 20:55

Yeh, check out Brian Cox's Fermi Paradox

I think Enrico Fermi might disagree with your statement there 😂

Octavia64 · 09/01/2026 21:04

Yes.

the universe will eventually end on heat death and there won’t be anything alive left at the point.

bloody long way off though

SomePosters · 09/01/2026 21:05

Seems delusional to say yes considering what we know about every other species that has been and gone and the vast time scales at play

PersephoneParlormaid · 09/01/2026 21:07

Yes, I think it will be something like an asteroid or the sun burning out, but not in my lifetime.

Not individuals, humans as a species. We have destroyed earth. I’m sure you know some lovely people, but as a species we are a plague.

Geoffrey Hinton,a Nobel prize winner whom people call the Godfather of AI because he contributed so much to its development, resigned from Google 2.5 years ago so that he could dedicate himself to warning humanity about the risks of AI. He predicts that AI will very soon become more intelligent than humans. At that stage, it will be able to exterminate humanity if it chooses to, which it may. There are already examples of AI acting against its human masters in its own interests. He predicts that there is a 10 to 20 percent chance that it will take over the world. There are lots of talks by him on YouTube. Here is a recent and short interview:

I think everyone believes this don't they? Because it's a fact. Humans won't live forever.

Yes, of course. It's inevitable.

And at this rate, with Trump, Putin and all, it'll be sooner than later.

Both things are true.

yes, humans will die out.

yes, it won’t be any time soon and none of us or our children or our great grandchildren will be here to experience it.

Namechangedforthis25 · 09/01/2026 21:19

yes. It’s a certainty

Planet Earth will eventually cease to exist simply as a result of the Suns energy ceasing to exist

humans in the current form will also cease - either through the things you have said or AI - or because we will evolve to such an extent that our descendants are no longer “humans”. These beings may be on planet earth at the time - or the moon/ elsewhere in the solar system

and of course, the universe will eventually have a big freeze - so everything will end

AllJoyAndNoFun · 09/01/2026 21:20

Probably but we’ve got a while to go if we want to outdo the dinosaurs.

BurntBroccoli · 09/01/2026 21:23

Absolutely.
