Would you replace a microwave with an air fryer?

My microwave isn't going to last much longer.

I only really use it for defrosting things, cooking beans or soup, and DD cooks instant noodles in it at least once a week.

Several friends are still raving about how good their air fryers are. I only have counter space for one appliance.

The microwave is actually a combi oven, but I've never used any of those functions. I'm wondering if I buy an air fryer when the microwave breaks, if I'll actually use the air fryer aside from learning how I can defrost a shepherd's pie or a tub of soup in it.

Would you swap?

Well that wasted 10 minutes on Google. I looked up "how long should it take to heat an oven up to 180 degrees" and of course the answers are all over the place, but commonly 5-10 mins for a fan oven to 10 to 20 mins for a conventional oven. So FickleOcelots 3-5 mins is sporty and my 20 is (very) tardy for a fan oven, to the point where I'm wondering if it's playing up (or if the oven thermometer is wrong)

I probably use my microwave and air fryer about the same amount and I’d be hard pressed to give either one up, but would probably keep my air fryer if I had to choose.

Agree about the misleading name "air fryer". I resisted buying one for years, thinking they were just glorified chip pans, but I barely use my oven nowadays.

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to use it to heat my microwave hot water bottle, though. Could be messy.

This is what I’ve got too - air fryer on a shelf on top of the microwave so doesn’t take up any more counter space.
