hi, i know lying awake at night can feel lonely so thought we could have a chat. nerve pain is killing me plus i'm aware of the fact i don't want to go to sleep and sleep late but i also don't want to stay up and sleep early evening. what's your reason for not sleeping?

i'm so sorrySadFlowershave you asked your gp for a sleeping pill? grief counselling or a support group may be beneficial.

Wide awake. Going to a funeral later this morning a long way from home so are staying in a hotel. Unfamiliar hotel noises around me including an odd droning sound. It's going to be a hard day.

Awake, no real reason for it. Watching The Fall season 2. I had a nice day and then felt really restless when I got home!

DominoBlue · 08/01/2026 04:27

Im sorry you lost your husband @Youngeryoungsuddenly I can't imagine the pain you are in.
I just don't sleep well, I bought a smart watch recently and it's really brought home how poor my sleep is. I get between 3 and 6 hours a night, with very little REM sleep, usually about 20 mins of REM.
I have a lot of pain and depression. Im on max dose of Duloxetine for nerve pain and depression. The small hours are when my brain seems to torture me. I look horrendous, huge black bags with blood shot, piggy eye and I'm having problems healing cut and growing hair and nails. So I hate looking at myself or people seeing me.
Sleep shouldn't be so difficult.

dogsarebetterthanppl · 08/01/2026 04:35

@Mumbles12 so sorry for your loss, i hope the funeral goes well and the noise quietens to let you sleep before you have to get ready.
@Kitterkitkat i'm trying to think of the fall but my mind is blank, hope you enjoy it and don't have a busy day ahead.
@DominoBlue i know the feeling, i've had the most horrendous nerve pain since early morning, really struggled to get out my mum's car earlier, it's amitriptyline i get for it but still upping it, i hope it eases for both of us.

@dogsarebetterthanppl it's with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan about a serial killer, perhaps this is not suitable night viewing.

Sorry I don't know how I managed to post that twice. Stupid brain.

Kitterkitkat · 08/01/2026 04:51

@DominoBlue it's rubbish when you can't sleep.

Maybe we should all get some tea or hot milk

Switching from day to night shifts has my sleep pattern all over the place. Was up at 10am this morning, felt like I was half asleep all day. Fell asleep again at 7pm and have been wide awake ever since, so I've given in and treated the night like a day.

I've done some washing, cleared up the kitchen, had a snack and built a trellis planter for the garden.

Today (Thursday) is supposed to be a day off work but I'm back in on Friday night so if I feel like it I'll take a nap later, but I'm kind of just rolling with it at this point. At least I hop won't feel like a total zombie on sárú morning.

So sorry for all of you being kept awake by pain or grief. Have been there, it's so hard x

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/01/2026 04:59

I had a panic attack and now can’t sleep. Been playing a game on my phone all night.

Once BF gets up for work I’m going to put on my fan and watch ASMR. That always gets me snoozing.

Overthebow · 08/01/2026 05:46

I have ASD and ADHD so have always had issues with sleep. I’ve been awake since 2am and can’t get back to sleep. I have a full day of work today and both kids will be up soon and have to get them to school and nursery.

Mumbles12 · 08/01/2026 23:19

@dogsarebetterthanppl thank you.

Youngeryoungsuddenly · 09/01/2026 04:39

Awake again! It’s too bloody cold to sleep. I’ve just dug out a second electric blanket and I saw the fan in the cupboard. Oh for the sweaty nights when I had the fan running all night!

piscofrisco · 09/01/2026 05:08

ive been awake since 3.35 first up with the Dog who wanted to go out, then a combination of worry about DD’s travelling to Canada today with their Dad, stuff with DSS’s, and the wind and rain lashing the windows has meant no more sleep for me. I nee to be up for work at half six and the commute seems as if it will be hellish in the weather.

HoseGoblin · 09/01/2026 05:12

Emergency services night shift ✌️ my feet are cold and I can already tell I won't be able to sleep when I get home despite having to come in for another 14 hour stretch on Saturday night.

Hugs to all of you who are up against your will. Nothing worse than lying there not being able to nod off.

rainNshine · 09/01/2026 05:18

37 weeks pregnant & uncomfortable!

Bonden · 09/01/2026 06:35

I’ve been awake all night and finally caved and got up. My sleep is appalling it’s as though I’ve actually forgotten how to go to sleep. I just can’t do it anymore. ADHD here too which doesn’t help. But approx twice a month I’m awake all blinking night
