I usually look out for the word 'complimentary' in tbis sort of thing.

“please be my guest-dinner is on me. Your presence is the only gift I would like” which I thought was lovely

Or say something like "please come along as my guest"

Things like this it's best not to beat around the bush because people will be unsure.

I would just add the words (my treat) to the invitation somewhere in brackets.

Just be careful with this, some people will see it as a gauntlet thrown down, and will be determined to Beat the Bar.

It wouldn't in mine @shhblackbag . I think the above wording is perfect.

Maybe agree a limit with the restaurant though, some people will take “free drinks” as an invitation to try the best cocktails and will spend way more than you’re expecting. So say something to the effect that you’ll be covering the meal and wine with dinner, and make clear to the restaurant that they are not to serve anything other than the wine you’ve chosen
