Are you as nosey as me?!

Lighthearted thread.

I was wondering about this the other day whilst on the tube, seeing people with their suitcases and always want to know where they are travelling to. It has nothing to do with me whatsoever, doesn't impact my life but always wonder....never asked though mind you!

Is there anything you've been curious about and wondered what people are doing, where they are going and why? :)

Yes I am. When on the overground I look at the backs of people’s houses and gardens and wonder what their lives are like. People passing by when I’m in a cafe. Doesn’t everyone do this?

ohyesido · 05/01/2026 15:27

Yes, whenever I am in London and walking past the posh buildings at Liverpool Street and America Square I want to know what the people inside are doing

ghostofchristmaspasta · 05/01/2026 15:36

I’m 100% worse. Waiting in traffic or as a passenger in the evenings I will be looking in every well lit window and judging/appreciating the interior design.

Why don’t people close their curtains? Do they not realise if it’s dark outside you can see everything inside?

Livpool · 05/01/2026 15:39

Oh I am and so is DS. I don’t know why I care

MiddleAgedDread · 05/01/2026 15:42

oh yes definitely, same with airports.....where is everyone going and why?? Ok, some are obvious e.g. summer holidays, but in somewhere like Heathrow Terminal 5 what are all these people doing travelling across the world on a Tuesday evening??

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 05/01/2026 15:53

I love nothing more than sitting somewhere people watching and wondering about them. My dh is well aware I enjoy doing this so always gives me the chair with the best vantage point. My 9year old Ds was sat in the front room earlier and called me in to tell me about people who had walked past the house arguing. He said he even paused the video he was watching “because you know me mum. I love a bit of drama”. I was honestly proud 🤣

Cazzovuoi · 05/01/2026 16:01

Yes me. People watching is my favourite spectator sport.

I also will look in windows as I drive past (only when I am the passenger obvs). Airports, train stations, busy city centre streets. Give me a cup of tea and a stool and I would spend hours just watching.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/01/2026 16:03

On the queue to pay for my shopping at the supermarket I'm always trying to work out why the person in front of me has those particular goods in their trolley.

mum2jakie · 05/01/2026 16:04

I love noseying at what other people have bought at the checkout!

Occasionally, I'll leave my blinds up intentionally because I've put some extra effort into my cleaning and nesting, so the place is all lovely. I want people to look in and think "ooh cosy!"

I have a house full of boys; they don't appreciate my cushion staging and ambient lighting the way I know my fellow nosey folk will 🤗

I kick myself if they've something fine looking that I've missed or forgot.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 05/01/2026 20:44

This is the joy of being a Northerner, because it's considered perfectly normal to chat to strangers, so you naturally find out almost everything anyway! 😂

SnowfallSnowball · 06/01/2026 18:39

@TheeNotoriousPIG great username by the way! Haha yes I imagine that’s the case, generally on the tube though we rarely speak to each other unless something is commented on or if someone asks for directions perhaps but other than that generally nothing!

Yes I do this as well, normally bread or milk! 9/10 though if someone is behind me they’ll let me go and come back with the item!

@AphroditesSeashell 🤣 love this, well you never know someone is no doubt secretly thinking ‘ooh I love what they’ve done with their cushions’’!

Yes! I love this!

IfIwasabluebird · 06/01/2026 18:48

Yes. Proper nosy. I still check my ring doorbell every morning in case something interesting happened overnight.
My current obsession is some dick head neighbours who appear to be on unsuitable dog number 3 in 18 months.

HolidayBrochure · 06/01/2026 18:50

My nosey neighbour is always commenting on how we always have our blinds shut in the evening…duh! Of course we do you nosey so n so 😝

SENcatsandfish · 06/01/2026 18:59

The antenatal and gynaecology department are in the same bit at our hospital. My daughter is 13, has SEN and didnt want to sit too near people so we found two chairs in a not so busy bit, after getting a lot of looks, i realised there was a sectioned off part for gynaecology patients but DD didnt want to move. I had checked DD in and i was reassuring her that the appointment would be fine etc so it was clear to anyone nosey we were there for her.

Im sure people were trying to work out what was going on 🤣

Thank you! (My username is in homage to a famous pig that I once knew, as she featured on a TV programme).

I have been on the Underground once (and I've still never been above ground in London). It was so strange that nobody just struck up a conversation with me, and I must have looked very lost (as probably only a northern country bumpkin could do!). I was rescued by a nice Northern lady, who came over and gave me a hand to advise me on Oyster cards and to find where I needed to be!

I don't think I'm built to be a southerner. I obviously talk too much, and I like gravy!

WildFlowerBees · 06/01/2026 21:03

I love people watching, I like to give strangers names and make up what they do for a living and why they are where they are. If I ever pass our crown court I wonder who’s in there and what they might have done. In general though I don’t like to pry into others affairs and don’t ever ask nosey questions. Dh thinks I’m mad when we go for lunch and I’ll say, things like, look at them that’s Pete and Claire on their first date, he’s an estate agent and she is an artist, think they’ll have another? 😬

Mobysdick · 06/01/2026 22:09

I am so nosey I can sit in a room of strangers and know their business just by observing and listening. I was in a hospital waiting area last week and probably could have volunteered to help manage the crowd as every time a porter brought someone from a&e I knew their name, and why they were there. One poor old lady was parked up and left and the porter walked off, after 30 mins a nurse asked her what she was doing there. She didn’t know, but guess who did 😉. Probably a toxic trait but makes me happy.

truffleruffle · 06/01/2026 22:13

Yes, I like to watch people’s style of walking. I have a friend who walks with his arms close to body, hands facing backwards. 🤣

OliviaBonas · 06/01/2026 22:42

I’m the nosiest person I have ever met. I love eavesdropping!

That’s bloody brilliant!!!
