Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The washer's on already, for the towels, and the beef for what should have been our New Year's roast is already in to slowly cook. I'm not very good at cooking beef, so hopefully it'll be ok!

No-one else is up yet, and the cats have gonr back to bed after breakfast so I should be in for an hour or two's peace.

We have no plans for the day - dd1 needs to complete her arguments for the assignment due tomorrow, so I'll leave her to do that. And dd2 was up late chatting to her friend in The Netherlands, so she'll sleep a while longer.

I'm expecting delivery of a craft kit at some point, so will probably get my paints out to fix a set of peg dolls I was meant to repair over Christmas, and slowly potter about in between paint layers.

We're still recovering from flu so I'll probably also have a nap before finishing off the roast.

Once we've tidied from tea, I'll have my much needed Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, and read for an hour, before heading to bed early ready for work tomorrow morning 💤. Doesn't really feel like I've had a nice break after being ill for most of it 😥 but there we go.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I had such a busy day yesterday I completely forgot about Mumsnet and only updated yesterday's thread this morning.

I have just been doing the last of the clearing up of the dining room/conservatory and reducing the size of the table (from 10 to 6 people), plus putting together a second food parcel of leftovers for local daughter. She took some home yesterday, but I didn't pack it up so we have lots more that could have gone in there, plus I had a very plaintive message last night to say we hadn't sent her home with any trifle!

So - Mr Dilemma is about to pop over with another bag-full, INCLUDING a container of my very special (my mum's recipe) sherry trifle. I know why he didn't send any - it is because he doesn't like food looking messy. He would much rather present, and eat, something that looks very neat and beautiful, rather than something that actually tastes delicious but is messy. I have put a generous portion of trifle into a container. It is all mixed up and looks fairly disgusting, but it will taste DELICIOUS!

My not-local daughter tells me it is snowing in Liverpool. @Bookaholic73 it hasn't showed where I am in Devon - we must be easy of you, and lower, I think. Bright sunshine here but COLD!

I have NO more plans for today. The kitchen is gloriously clean and tidy, the bathrooms all had a good going over yesterday, the rest of the house is clean and tidy, there is already a wash in the machine. I may do some more crafting.

Im in bed having a cup of tea with DDog. All pets have been fed, he’s had a pee in garden but need to get him out for a proper walk but it’s so cold 🥶

DH is back to work tomorrow, kids and I Wednesday, NE Scotland. Going to try use today to get us all back on schedule. Still have decorations to put away.

Steak pie for tea today, was meant to be yesterday but we ended up getting take away.

Must do some cleaning and ironing today and try get us all an early night.

I was woken by DDog this morning who felt it was acceptable try and get on my pillow so got up and made a cuppa. Going to get DD1 out of bed now and go to the gym for an hour, come home and take the xmas tree and decorations down and make a cottage pie for dinner. We have snow potentially forecast for mid-afternoon, although we’re usually quite luckily it’s never that bad, so will do a dog walk before that.

Then it’s back to school/work for us all tomorrow so it’ll be baths/hairwashes, uniforms, school bags and lunches and a bit of work prep for me. I definitely haven’t missed that during our time off!

On holiday so it’s 24 degrees here. Just had lunch and a glass of wine. Back on my sunbed for a couple of hours before getting ready to go and meet some friends for an early dinner. They live here but have been away and flew back this morning. Haven’t seen them for about 5 years so really looking forward to catching up.

Morning all! Feeling more positive today but a bit jittery as tomorrow I'm back to work full time for the first time in 8 weeks after a bout of ill health. Do I feel ready? I do not! But I'll see how it goes. Laundry is on and DH is away getting a very austere food shop for the week ahead. I'll sort some breakfast in a moment.
Apart from getting DS some fresh air (I'm thinking forest walk with a flask of hot chocolate), today will be mostly about resetting the house and completing any urgent admin tasks. Later, DS will veg out in front of David Attenborough and I'll do some jigsaw / cross stitch / Japanese. I'd like to book a couple of things for our trip to Paris next month as well. Steak tonight but no wine. Have a lovely day everyone.

Good morning everyone. It’s absolutely Baltic here and snow in a little bit.

I slept terribly last night and it was gone 4am before I finally fell asleep so it’ll be a slow day for me.

Dh was up and raring to go by 6am and he has his organising head on so is currently faffing with a new wifi extender and talking to himself and he intends on finishing all the jobs I didn’t get round to yesterday so I can sit and relax - I’m still in my pjs and oodie on the sofa with my second cup of tea and some toast.

Dd18 is still here and is still undecided when to go back to uni so may be here a few more days yet which is absolutely fine by me.

I do have a couple of little things I need to do today - strip dd11’s bed, iron school and work clothes and nip to Tesco as I forgot a few items in my delivery yesterday but that’s as far as my energy levels will go today I think.

Tea is the steak and jacket potatoes we were meant to have yesterday but dd18 went out instead so dh and I had a takeaway. I’ll need to pick dd11 something else up while I’m at Tesco as she doesn’t like steak so I’ll see what she wants when she gets home from her sleepover.

Then this evening I’ll carry on with my book that I started last night and have a very early night before work tomorrow.

Good morning all. A slow start as I’m feeling a bit rubbish due to medication yesterday. Just finished my coffee and contemplating a walk in the sunshine and frost to look at the village hall (probably our wedding venue). Ds is going back to London today so will probably give him a lift later. Going to keep food really simple, maybe baked potatoes.

Beautiful frosty morning here and just about to have my 2nd cup of coffee. I had intended to take down the decorations today but still battling this head cold which started NYE, so plan to just rest on the sofa, drink hot lemon & ginger and finish my book.

Later on I'm going to cook a chilli and we'll start S3 of Slow Horses.

I had an awful night sleep so today will be a very slow day. I think I’ve got what I like to call ‘a low level bug’. I’ve had a dry tickly throat for a couple of days and a bit of an upset stomach last night.

Typically I have left all housework to last day before work/school tomorrow as I thought earlier in the week I could just blitz it all today. Instead it will be just concentrating on the basics and popping out for a quick food shop!

Good morning @lucysmam et al, dear lord it’s cold outside today! -4° but feels like -8° apparently, but it’s a beautiful sunny morning and quite pleasant out of the wind. I do love getting outside early in the day.

So far I have walked the dogs, cleaned the kitchen, filled up the bird feeders in the garden, cleaned out the wood burner and lit it, filled the log basket and made my second cup of coffee.
The remains of the gammon with jackets, pickles etc for dinner, then that’s all the Christmas and New Year’s food gone. I’ve sorted out an Ocado delivery for midweek and checked what I have in the freezer so that’s sorted.
DH is grumpy because there’s no coffee waggon in the village today, if he moans about it any more today I will be hard pushed not to scream. There’s nothing stopping him deriving to the coffee shop in the next village if that’s what he wants!
I’m going to spend the rest of the day doing arty stuff, more of my illuminated alphabet and start a coloured pencil and ink sketch, never tried that before.

@Zippedydodah it's this one, pictured. Was a tenner cheaper on Amazon, mind. Tiktok shows me far too many crafts 🙈. I was going to buy a stocking kit but went with a cheaper one for now, y'know, in case I don't like it.

I'm currently weighing up whether to complete current (ongoing) works in progress, or buy pattern and yarn for something I want to crochet for June 🤔.

good morning lucysmam and to u all . I’m late today as my friend popped in for a coffee. We also having a beef dinner and daughter no 1 coming with my grandson. I’m not goin outside door today as we had snow but we live on a lane and the grit van don’t come across here so it’s like an ice rink I also wanted to pop to cemetery which is literally Nxt door to me as I put a small Christmas tree on mam and dads grave and I want to bring it home to repot it but as I said too Icey so hopefully I can go tomorrow. Have a great and safe day all 🫶

Morning (just)! All, I was up at 8 this morning which is super late for me so I’m feeling well rested! Had a coffee and fed and petted the cat, then got on with some housework. Took the tree and decorations down, cleaned and tidied the living room and kitchen and took the bins out. Going to brave the cold and go for a run in a little while, usually do 5k but I think I’ll do half that today and see how I go, not sure how icy it will be. Once home I’ll have some lunch and then my sister is coming over to visit.

Back to work tomorrow so will do the last bit of laundry, make a few days worth of lunches and have a shower, wash hair and get an outfit out for tomorrow. Dinner tonight is sea bass with pesto butter, potatoes and long stem broccoli.

Go for the pattern and yarn, WIPs will wait…..actually, I’m probably not the best person to advise, I have far too many of the latter simply because I indulge in the former 🫣😁
I love seeing what others are doing but it leads me astray…….

Another stranded snow day. 4 inches fell last night. No gritters, main roads are dangerously slippery not to mention the unclassified roads.

unlikely i will be going to work tomorrow unless the buses are running. I aint moving my car (and i can’t anyway!)

It's VERY icy here and I think I'm going to have to drive somewhere a bit safer tomorrow!
2 loads of washing done, I've shower etc

Dh and dd1 back at work tomorrow.
Dd2 back at college on Wednesday.

Afternoon! Well, the builder didn't turn up or answer his phone. I can't believe my life has been put on hold for so long. I'm on the hunt for a new one now. I'm also holding all of his tools hostage.

Bah.

I've just watched last nights Traitors, giggling with the suspense. Can't wait for the reveal of the secret traitor next week!

About to go and put a load through the washing machine - bought a few tops from the charity shop last week, which just need a freshen-up. Then I'll probably settle down with my book for an hour.

Popped to the high street this morning for an hour or so. Now we’re staying in - cooking a chicken for lunch! Relaxing as far as possible with two under 3! I am enjoying reading all your slow mornings with older dc - that will be me one day!

Beautiful sunny day here but freezing.

DD was up early and went to the gym and now back in bed. DS is wandering the garden with the chickens.

I keep thinking I should do something as its beautiful and sunny but DH keeps pointing out its freezing so we are going swimming this afternoon.

Will have a roast dinner tonight and clean downstairs, DS walks mud into the house, and then we will bake some cakes.

I am on a train. DH has just sent me a picture of the whiteout at home. I hope he can get to the station to pick me up. Mid-Wales.

I've decided to spend some time finishing off, this month. I only actually have 3 projects on the go atm, plus assorted peg dolls by request, so should be fairly easy. One is a painting that just needs one area finished - should have done that today really, instead of pick up the thread crochet village. Then my craft slate is clear to start again.

Taking decs down, cleaning. DH walked the dog and made dinner- quorn, veggie pie.

Last day before I go back to work after 10 days off and no alarm. Taking it fairly easy - went to supermarket, visited my parents' for lunch and going to the gym soon, but that's it.

Slept til 2pm!
