Do you have any hobbies? Or planning new ones this year?

Morning and happy new year!

Just wanted to get some ideas of what hobbies people have that you enjoy doing.

I WFH and have realised I don’t really do much other than work, watch lots of telly, read books and far too much phone scrolling.

I’ve never really had any hobbies, not sporty or creative and would like to do more with my evenings.

What kind of things do you all do that you enjoy? Open to all ideas and suggestions for inspiration!

thank you :)

We did this when dd was younger too - if you start a thread on here you will get loads of "friends" which really helps. I haven't been on it for years (sorry to anyone here I am friends with and haven't opened gifts etc!) but it was always a great way to get the kids out.

ir really is, isn’t it? Combines the gaming they love with getting fresh air and exercise - a great compromise to allow more screen time I always felt! Plus the added bonus of seeing all the doggies out on their walks and getting cuddles lol. Maybe that’s just me though - my friend laughs at me as I literally speak to every person and every dog that we see when walking - she’s the exact opposite and wants to avoid people!

oh wow, great range of activities and ideas!

  • fitness is definitely on the list (and much needed!) and hadn’t thought of that being a hobby weirdly!
  • I do have a sewing machine I bought for my DD so might take it out and set it up - lots of videos on YouTube etc - I did at a basic level many may years ago but not touched a machine for years!
  • also planned to try a new thing once a month - it’s not quite a hobby but hoping it opens up new activities and fun things to try out

Thank you :)

How about something like an evening class in pottery or jewellery-making? They are both things I quite fancy having a go at, but have never found the time.

I’m going to a taster session at a local community choir. I used to sing in a community choir some years ago, and I miss it so much. Just happy to sing and learn, and unjudgemental. Really hope to take it up again.

Thats the kind of thing I’m looking at as one of the monthly things to do, don’t think it will keep my attention for a few weeks!

Found a site called ‘classbento’ - seems to be a bit like eventbrite with a focus on workshops and things you can learn so have seen some cute ideas on there

Only in the last 5 or 6 years have I had any time for (or interest in) hobbies but since my children got older and I had more me time I have become interested in so many things. Unfortunately I also went from part time work to full time with long hours so my ability to do these hobbies is limited. My resolution for 2026 is to have a better work life balance though!

I like to sew, garden, read and hike. I am hoping to make a dress this year, read at least 10 books, spend whatever time in my garden that I can and go on at least one walking holiday. We shall see if all those things materialise but I am pretty determined!

I also want to become a better cook. I have a chinese cooking lesson booked next Saturday and am really looking forward to that!

One of my hobbies is painting (flat) acrylics - I'm making the leap across to painting Warhammer models. Some skills transfer and some don't...
