18th birthday gift for son?

What on earth do we get him?
he Seems to have everything and I’m not sure he’d like a gold chain or something like that. Shouldn’t your 18th gift be something you keep forever or am I overthinking it and cold cash is ok?
he is the sort of person that ( I think) needs new trainers but says he only has one pair of feet why does he need more shoes?!

My eldest daughter is 18 next week. She asked me to make her a king size patchwork quilt, and for a Baby Taylor guitar. We’ve also made her a photobook of her through the years. My middle daughter has made/organised a scrapbook of letters from close friends and family. She’s also got an anime art book that she was desperate for at Christmas but I pretended was too expensive to ship from Japan.

As a bonus present, I’ve got her tickets to the Wes Anderson exhibit in London at Easter and I’ll take her down there for an overnight trip, just the two of us.

She’s not in the slightest bit interested in a party or a big meal out.

DP has promised DS a nice watch, but I’m interested to see if this changes over the next 6-7yrs!
My nephew got a (short) trip away and some money towards an item he’d been saving up for.

We got ds a cheapish car for combined 18th/Christmas that year and also an engraved pewter hipflask to keep (wasn’t expensive)

The hipflask was been surprisingly well used whenever he has worn a suit or kilt, - to prom, uni balls, two weddings and 🤦🏻‍♀️ a funeral.

We got our DS a personalised car registration number and had the plates made up for him. Something he can have forever!

Thanks everyone! In the end we got random presents that suit his hobby, no forever watch except a daft clock with a face that I made as a joke but he seems happy!
