Peanut butter questions

TheTecknician · 31/12/2025 20:19

I've never tasted PB so please bear with me. What sort of a peanuty taste does it have? Is it anything like the shelled peanuts that squirrels and monkeys like or more like KP salted or dry roasted peanuts? Also, what is the butter element of PB ? Is it actual butter blended with peanuts or is PB essentially pureed peanuts?

Thankyou.

Surely the obvious thing to do is to compare the ingredient labels and then pick which you think you would prefer and try it for yourself?
Sunpat has lots of other ingredients.
The better brands are 100% pure peanuts - so need mixing because the oil always ends up on top.

If you want a delicious but oh so calorific treat then take 2 hobnobs, on one spread Nutella, on the other spread peanut butter, sandwich together and enjoy. Best enjoyed when no one else is around to a)observe (b) steal your snack.

@InfoSecInTheCity with a dollop of decent vanilla ice cream inside

When I had an eye level grill (look it up young 'uns), I used to do cheese on toast, with peanut butter under the cheese and chilli jam on top of the cheese

Try it, dont faint with shock at what Ive said, try it first!!

Despite the fact that it's 100% or thereabouts peanuts each type does taste completely different. I'm not a huge fan of the dark roast ones. My current favourite is Pip and Nut, I'm not as keen on Aldi and Meridien. Whole Earth is OK, SunPat is too sweet and has emulsifiers etc.

I never eat it with jam or similar, although I do bake with it occasionally. Love it on bread (one of my favourite sandwich fillings) also toast or rice cakes, on it's own or over a layer of marmite, it is also lovely topped with avocado or a poached egg or both. Also use it for satay and curry sauces including that bang bang chicken one, it is a very useful ingredient.

I love PB but agree with previous posters, not all are the same! I buy 100% peanut stuff for DS but I don’t mind the Waitrose own brand (95% peanut) for myself.

How / why haven’t you tried? Get some!

pouletvous · 01/01/2026 08:34

PB and banana on toast! Yum

I am a longterm PB fan but recently tried the Duchy version expecting it to be as lovely as their jams but it was horrible. Oily and bland goop.
Went back to Skippy. Not everything more expensive and natural tastes nicer.

Crunchy peanut butter
Granary toast
Salt and pepper

snack of the Gods

DD and I get through a 1kg tub of peanut butter every 3 weeks or so. I have it in sandwiches for lunch, with toast and jam/honey/marmite for breakfast, in porridge, to thicken veggie stews, to make satay sauce for stir fries, in biscuits recipe, with rice cakes as a snack, to add protein to flapjack… it is a fundamental part of my veggie, sporty lifestyle.
