What's been your best purchase of the year?

I have 2. First is my coffee machine. It grinds the beans, so I can have a freshly brewed coffee each morning. I love it!
Second one is a prize from postcode lottery. It's a rechargeable hot water bottle, and it's been a game changer! Especially useful for when I'm cold watching DS play rugby....

Could you possibly explain to an ignoramus, @GreenGodiva? How has the 3d printer helped you raise money? (Because I’m perfectly sure the picture in my head of a Star Trek type food simulator is not what you mean.)

Basically it’s printer that uses plastic string/filament and you can either design or choose a pie designed programme. They are incredibly accurate and fascinating machines. You press print and it basically creates an item right in front of you. Like precision crochet through a tiny hot extruder. So I’ve been making things to sell at our makers market. I’ll add a photo of our tables. The stained glass is all made by me, but the plastic looking stuff, village tea lights etc is all 3d printed by me. You can see the frame of my printer in the background of the blue dragon skeleton. Is been great for refreshing my hands on entering/repairing skills and also updating my tech skills by learning cad and slicers etc. I’ve loved it despite the frustrations .

Period underwear, so comfy and don't even remember I am on my period anymore during the day. No leaks. A meaco dehumidifier, dries laundry overnight in the winter

My immediate thought was - how lovely, how quaint - I wonder if they were Victorian or Edwardian or...

Can I count hiring a handyman as a purchase?

He's done lots of jobs that we will never get round to doing. My house used to cause me low level embarrassment. We cant fix all of it (finances) but he's sorted out a lot of stuff and it makes me happier.

He's a bit rude and a bit smelly (he smokes but not in my house) and slow but his work is good and he is reasonably priced.

The most stupidly expensive pan I’ve ever bought! Even though it was in the sale, but I love the fact it doesn’t have a nonstick coating, it cooks the food evenly, it can be used for frying, boiling, poaching, etc. I use it every single day, and it should out live me!

yonem · 31/12/2025 14:38

My wedding 🥰
New (to us) house, in a much quieter and leafier area which has already made such a difference to our quality of life. We’re fully renovating it and I want to get hard floors in the whole downstairs so maybe next year I’ll be saying robo mop/vacuum too!
60m rotary washing line that can hold multiple loads (Brabantia)

A pair of waterproof trainers from Mountain warehouse that cost under £30, brilliant for dog walking.

Ooh which ones? I after replacing my worn out Karrimor ones, which were not waterproof but super comfy.

Our conservatory. We built it ourselves and it feels like it has doubled the space downstairs.

Dh bought two new wheelbarrows for above build and how we out up with our old worn out one for as long as we did, I do not know. Makes moving the log delivery so much easier with its pneumatic front tyre.

Lastly, and a bit late to the party, my pale pink Crocs my dd bought me for my birthday. I LOVE them!
Ditto my Saltwater sandals. I was dubious as they are flat and I am prone to plantar fasciitis but so far so good. I got the ones with the thicker soles

Soup maker!!

Hedgesgalore · 31/12/2025 14:58

Its supposed to be a summerhouse but we call it the new shed 😂

Dh came up with a brilliant idea to put an extension on our existing shed (three walls, new floor and roof). It has more windows and nicer doors than the existing shed and I can see out when sitting down, great watching the birds.

There is an oil rad out there and we are planning to insulate inside, change the windows and eventually slate the roof(s). All can be done over time, not in a rush, we want to see how much we use it throughout the year first.

I had decking added to the whole of the front of both sheds to reinforce its all one shed. What I hadn't given enough consideration to was how long it takes to paint it all 😂 but I don't care, absolutely love it.

Paying for a gardener - I had gone from loving my garden to being totally overwhelmed by it - he has reclaimed it from the wilderness it had become and I am enjoying it again and excited for Spring and Summer.

Air fryer. Use it nearly every day. Barely ever use the oven nor microwave these days.

two flights to Thailand 🇹🇭

GameOfJones · 31/12/2025 16:39

Mounjaro too. It's the best £1k I've ever spent. 4.5 stone lost but the unexpected bonus is that I am SO much happier, more confident and more joyful. I didn't realise how rubbish I felt until I lost the weight and felt so much better.

Catwalking · 31/12/2025 16:49

Shark (upright) hoover, -persuaded as bank gave me cash back & was reduced too…wasn’t actually looking to replace dyson but realised was sick of brushing the floor so hard & dyson’s waste emptying was a mission on its own😆.
also forced to have a new cooker so got 1 with super duper cleaning its own insides. (Old 1 was only 4yrs old but twice shorted out during roasts! & electrician friend took apart but couldn’t find a problem, so daft to get the replacements ‘allowed’ from guarantee?)had convenient slight price reduction just b4 black fri.☺️
