Is Mumsnet the last living breathing message forum?

Just that really - I just realised I’ve been reading the hilarious and shocking posts here for nearly 20 years, but it’s also the ONLY message forum that I still use/read. Are there even any others still going?! Used to be a message forum on every website, it seemed. Now… just mumsnet and gransnet?! Or are there fitness forums, knitting, gardening etc elsewhere? (FB groups don’t count, I mean the classic message board like this one.)

Also, I’d love to know if anyone has been on here longer?! Anyway, ❤️ mumsnet.

No, there are loads of subject specific forums out there.

Starseeking · 29/12/2025 18:46

I used to practically live on Digital Spy when the first few BB series were on. Haven’t been on it for years, however I believe Digital Spy is still operating.

Lindtnotlint · 29/12/2025 18:48

Apart from the big generalist Reddit there are loads of more niche things. Eg “visiting Disney from the uk” has its own massive active forum at the dibb. Quite like mumsnet in some ways except less “when should I potty train” and more “when is the deadline for booking a lightning lane”

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about this subject:

The Student Room

I used this back in the day! Someone from my university course asked me out on it 😂 He didn’t even know what I look like. Very bizarre.

There was a paid bit that had its own members-only threads and there was like a live chat area (called Shout Box or something?) that I would waste hours on.

Websleuths.

TheatreBoard.

Vegan Forum.

Digital Spy and Reddit, if you steer clear of upsetting the poor emotional men lest you get booted off for asking questions and daring to champion women 🙃

GreywackeJ · 29/12/2025 19:08

What about NetMums? Is that long gone?

I am not on Reddit but my sons are always talking about sub reddits whatever that means.

I like Tattle too.

Same, around 2007/ 2008 I was on Digital Spy all the time. Didn't know it was still going! I only use Mumsnet and Reddit now, I'm more of a lurker these days though.

Reddit? That’s still going strong.

I love Reddit!

EchoedSilence · 29/12/2025 19:10

Reddit has thousands of sub reddits. I use Reddit more than MN.

Egglio · 29/12/2025 19:12

Wasn't there a big hoo ha at one point with Pistonheads Vs Mumsnet? As in they kept coming over here and posting fake threads/replies/trolling? Or did I just make that up?

ThreeMenInAVan · 29/12/2025 19:13

I bet they’re loving this on the Cook’d and Bomb’d forum.

Yes I recall this too - DH reads Pistonheads on occasion as he’s a big car guy, and he told me about it. He says Pistonheads is Mumsnet for the worst men you know 😂

Why? Do they troll MN?

I've been on USENET since the mid 80s.

It's so old it's never mentioned in any laws about "social media". (It's also decentralised, so can't be easily taken down).

NNTP - it's where it's at 😎

I used to be on USENET decades ago, with a dedicated reader program - not sure how to access it now, as (correct me if I am wrong) it is basically a part of the internet but not the WWW, and I don't know how to get to it from a web browser or if that is even possible.
How do I get onto USENET now?

TheDandyLion · 29/12/2025 19:21

eFests and Stereoboard.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 29/12/2025 19:25

As has been said Reddit. I don't use it though as I find it hard to navigate (maybe it's just me.) Also, it's easy to get banned on Reddit, and it's almost impossible to rejoin. Also Digital Spy. And Netmums. I used to post a lot on Digital Spy, but not for about 5 years now. Also MSE. And Pistonheads (though that's more for blokes I think...)

I like Mumset more than any of the others though. Smile

It’s an Inside No.9 reference.

I think they’d consider trolling Mumsnet to be beneath them anyway.

NinePoppadomsAndASaagAloo · 29/12/2025 19:41

I’ve been here for 24 years! I used to use MSN Groups a lot in the early 2000s as well, they were great! I’m still friends with some of the people I met there, having met up in real life.
DH uses various car-focused forums that have been around a long time and still going strong.

Giggorata · 29/12/2025 19:48

Cook’d and Bomb'd are fervently and completely pro trans and consider Mumsnet to be full of middle class fascists, bigots and transphobes.

Yes, I dated a prominent poster there a few years ago and met a few of the others and they’re the smuggest most self-righteous bunch of people you can imagine. I’m very much team Reece!

Leftleg · 29/12/2025 19:50

I used to read babycentre forums, I just had a look and it's still going but seems much more quiet.

My secret hobby is lurking on 'police mumsnet'

www.reddit.com/r/policeuk/

Screamingabdabz · 29/12/2025 20:19

blankcanvas3 · 29/12/2025 18:40

I don’t see how that’s relevant but it would depend on the sub you’re on - if you’re on the subreddit for Trans people obvs you’re going to get censored.

Oh yes of course ‘obviously’. 🙄 What an indictment on how reasonable the discourse is. When TRAs plop into the MN FWR board, they are engaged and debated with. Spot the difference.

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 29/12/2025 20:46

I know of several but they are all to do with hobbies and interests, so most of the chat naturally revolves around those topics and only occasionally branches off.
