Anyone else up with a horrendous cough?

This is my third night in a row of not being able to sleep due to an absolutely horrendous cough and I’m just seeking some solidarity!! It started off a week ago today with a hoarse voice then progressed to a full-on cough, lots of post-nasal drip and my throat constantly needing cleared. Yesterday and today my sinuses have been painful and I’ve a terrible sinus headache that paracetamol is barely touching, I’ve also lost my sense of taste and smell today too. Glad I could still taste my Christmas dinner at least! I almost can’t take a single breath without coughing, I am sometimes dropping off to sleep but waking myself up choking with this cough. I’ve tried mucus cough medicine, saline nasal spray, Sudafed, and nothing seems to be working :( I’m so bloody tired and pissed off that it’s ruined my much-needed time off work!!

Aww thanks everyone, I managed to drop off to sleep around 3am propped up on the sofa and went to bed when my DP got up for work, slept till 1pm as I’m just so fatigued!! 😳 Therefore I missed all the posts by this ‘Strangle’ user as they’re all deleted, I dread to think what they were saying on an innocuous post about having a cough etc 🤣 Hope everyone is feeling better and at various stages of recovery - the solidarity last night definitely helped! ❤️

Night nurse liquid. It works. You will sleep and feel more able to cope through the day.

so sorry to read about your terrible cough. One thing that works quite well for me to get rid of a cough is first thing when you wake up, crush a clove of garlic and swallow it with a big glass of water chaser. It’s not great but you will feel your sinuses drying up.

repeat until no cough is left. Hope it works for you.

We have had this. Kids. Husband. Grandad. Blardy awful. Lasted weeks. And then gone. Thank goodness.

copious amounts of hot honey and lemon were consumed here. Which helped.

get well soon

TheHillIsMine · 29/12/2025 18:53

Me. I have a thread too. It's cruel too as I feel better and nearly normal for a minute then back to exhaustion and coughing with a side offering of not being able to breath properly.

Hello all. Had my nightly fruit tea and have stopped coughing (for now!) nose is completely bunged up though Angry
When will this ever end? I’m on like day 12! Lost my voice yesterday morning briefly. I’ve been ok during the day, still working throughout but nights are pretty grim.
ill buy some phenergan/ night nurse today

Notmeagain24 · 30/12/2025 03:48

We had this at the start of December! Lasted about 10 days in total, the cough quite a bit longer ... and the exhaustion is still here! Hopefully you're doing a bit better this evening. Xx

TheHillIsMine · 30/12/2025 08:08

Does anyone know how long we'd be infectious for please? Still fretting about work.

Yeah I’ve had it for over a week now but it’s been getting incrementally worse, I’m hoping it’ll reach a peak!! I even wondered if it was flu because of the exhaustion and feeling weak but googling the symptoms I don’t think it is. Woke up today feeling marginally better I think!!

@LeopardPrintEverything - glad you've felt a little better! Hoping tomorrow even more so. I wondered if it was flu but didnt have the fever and was at least able to get up after 2 days in bed. I thought it was probably covid but never tested positive (even though I did take a test after about 9 days). I also found it kept coming back in waves. I might be ok one morning and then by evening, I felt rough again. Some really nasty germs about ! Xxx

Yes I know what you mean, I felt well enough today to do some washing and other wee chores and then was absolutely floored afterwards!! I also took a Covid test the other night but it was negative (the test was 3 months out of date mind you, although Google informed me it would probably still work 🤣). It doesn’t feel like Covid either tbh.
