And what do you usually order?

We're having Indian tonight, and it's 2 x biryani, tarka dahl and prawn puri.
We needed something spicy to get away from all the roasts.

I love curry too. We usually get various things to share. Lamb shaktora (I think it's called), maybe a chicken tikka masala or a dhansak potato and aubergine side, a naan and maybe a tarka daal. We make rice at home as I'm a bit paranoid about food poisoning from rice

BillieWiper · 27/12/2025 19:15

If calories and related bloating and regret weren't a thing I'd probably go with Vietnamese or Thai.

Grilled marinaded quail, stir fried morning glory, catfish claypot, massaman beef or chicken curry and steamed rice. With some summer prawn rolls on the side.

We’re spoiled where I live. But probably Turkish. Grilled meats and salads and breads and sides.
I’m a good cook so can’t be bothered with stuff I can make myself. I can never quite recreate a good Turkish menu.

Fish and chips

TheeNotoriousPIG · 27/12/2025 20:27

My favourite would be Indian/Pakistani. I did not take this into consideration when I moved far away from where I grew up, and the local curry place is a disappointment as their offerings are so bland in comparison! Also, they do not even have lamb karahi on their menu.

We are fairly limited here, even more so if you want it delivered. We can get pizza, a decent Chinese, or one where you're advised to book subsequent days off work because of suspected food poisoning or diarrhoea!

Cazzovuoi · 02/01/2026 17:36

Greek or Persian.

We are spoiled too, so much choice!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/01/2026 17:37

The best takeaway near us is Syrian. Bloody amazing!!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 02/01/2026 17:40

We moved from a small village whee we had the most amazing curry restaurant but no other options, to a small town with a few curry and Chinese takeaways, plus fish and chips, but nothing else. Although a mobile Thai truck visits once a month.

We've had an Indian takeaway a few times but none of the restaurants here are as good as where we came from. The food is far too mild. We've had a Chinese a couple of times, and ditto with the fish and chips.

We've been here 3 years now and we've probably had less than 10 takeaways in that time. If there was a decent Indian we'd be having a lot more

OttersMayHaveShifted · 02/01/2026 17:44

Not much choice here - only Indian or Chinese. I used to like to alternate between the two, but I'm now gluten-intolerant, which makes Chinese restaurants a bit of a minefield! Our local Indian restaurant is great though. My typical order is chicken balti, pilau rice, onion bhaji and tarka dhal.

laxydash · 02/01/2026 17:45

Indian food, I'm vegetarian so I like a paneer curry so Matter Paneer, Shahi paneer or a Bhuna with Paneer and veggies.

I also love Korean Food, Thai and Japanese usually a bento box or a Kimchi-jjigae with Tofu or a Chilli Tofu Ramen from a local place.

Gingerkittykat · 02/01/2026 17:52

My favourite Indian take away is tandoori paneer which is served with rice and curry sauce. I also get Nepali lamb chola as a starter and serve them together.

My favourite Korean is Tteok bokki with fried chicken on the side.

Well someone had to do it, and I know it off by heart.
And I’m not sharing any of it xx

bumphousebump · 02/01/2026 17:57

The take out options where I live are so disappointing. Lurid sauces for Indian food, sticky sweet sauce for Chinese….no decent Turkish or Thai or Vietnamese.

dehydratedcactus · 02/01/2026 17:58

I love a prawn puri! If we're having Indian I'm very boring, chicken korma for me or sometimes a prawn korma, it started because I wasn't very adventurous but now I actually just really like the flavour.
We order Chinese mostly but my partner would choose Greek or Indian.

Defrostedmariahcarey · 02/01/2026 18:05

CHINESE. I feel like you can simply not get anything close homemade, to a Chinese takeaway.
I have
Tofu in black bean sauce
vegetable fried rice
spring rolls
Chips!

Are you going to sit in the car? 🤣🤣

Whosthetabbynow · 02/01/2026 18:50

Indian. Chicken vindaloo. Peas pilo rice. Bombay potato. Keema Nan.

I might sulk, then come indoors, and eat at the table with Nessa, who like me doesn’t do sharing. We might both sneer at Stacey with her korma, “Am I boring having a korma Gav?”. “Course not “ says Gav. Yep, we both think, you are both boring.

GRCP · 02/01/2026 19:20

Cod and chips with loads of salt and vinegar.
Love a curry, mine’s a chicken tikka masala or prawn Bhuna, rice, garlic naan, saag paneer

Jemma8 · 03/01/2026 02:58

Always Thai! I share with my wife: a curry (often maasaman beef), coconut rice and then a stir fry dish or noodles. Our fave is a dish with chicken mince, aubergine and a sticky sauce. So delicious!
