Last year DH and SIL agreed that we’d only buy presents for the children (two on our side, one on hers). This year I checked with DH to confirm that it was the same arrangement this year, and he said yes. So we organised for DNephew’s gift to be delivered to SIL (we live overseas) and she would wrap it for us, and didn’t do anything else.
we visited this afternoon as we won’t see them on Christmas Day. As we were leaving SIL appeared with two large bags of gifts. She’s bought gifts for all us from her family, adults included, and she’s done FIL shopping and bought his gifts for us. There are at least 16 presents there. We had nothing to give her in return, not a single thing. I’m mortified and mad with DH for just assuming it was going to be the same as last year! I am not unreasonable to be embarrassed about this, right?
