Reasons I can’t sleep

  1. my feet are too hot…they could likely cook the Christmas turkey if it got close enough.
  2. the feathers from the duvet are sticking through and jagging me
im up in 4 hours and have a million things to do today, I could really do with some sleep. what trivial things are keeping you up?

I ate Jaffa cakes before bed. I should know by now - it must be a blood sugar thing but if I eat late I wake up at 4. Every time. (Was it always the way or did I only notice in my 40s)

Oh, it’s prime hot flush time too. Good-o.

Menopausal insomnia. I wake every night at 2am and get hot flashes every 15 minutes preventing me from sleeping. I usually drop off again somewhere between 5 and 6am which isnt great as the day needs to start 6.30am at the latest.

Am currently laid on top of the duvet, naked hot and window open!

Im on MN to stop my mind worrying about stuff.

My newborn and my three year old are tag teaming tonight. One can't help it obviously and needs to be fed, the other is hyped up and emotional before Christmas... And is thankfully now back asleep in her bed. One down one to go! DH goes to settle 3yo but she would rather have me and listening to her cry for me while also rocking newborn has tipped me over the edge slightly...

OvernightBloats · 24/12/2025 04:11

Menopausal insomnia here too! Can't be guaranteed good sleep every night any more even though I am on HRT.

Admitted defeat, got myself a coffee and will probably start the day properly at 6.

I miss the days of my youth where I slept like a log and had long lie-ins! 😐

cornflakesandtea · 24/12/2025 04:12

Feeding 8 week old twins who have their first lot of vaccinations today at 9am so I’m hoping we can get done and back to asleep asap! Fancy their first jabs on Christmas Eve 😔 I hope they aren’t feeling under the weather on their very first Christmas.

caniaffordit · 24/12/2025 04:13

Because I needed a wee and can’t now drop back off because I really need sleep with having so much to do today

Totally get this! 4 month old and 3 year old here. I'm up as I fed the baby now I can't sleep, listening to the 3 year old toss and turn in bed after he made himself ill with Christmas excitement. 'Tis the season!!!
Hope you're ok with the stress of it all, it's a brief time but a hard one juggling a newborn and toddler, it will get easier even though we don't feel that right now!

Amiokay · 24/12/2025 04:15

At my in-laws and think I have hypothermia 😂

Ihad2Strokes · 24/12/2025 04:16

I've always had insomnia, but I don't think the stroke has helped, since the stroke though I can just power through in no sleep like U used to though & it's not helping with recovering!!

I guess it's all the post stroke worry about life as well. It really does your head in!

maybe I should be a night nanny, I bet plenty of mums could sleep if someone else was feeding changing cuddling babies & excited toddlers!! One of us could be sleeping then!!

HelpMeGetThrough · 24/12/2025 04:21

Chronic pain. I’ve got RA and fell over badly on my shoulder a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if the pain is RA related or I’ve buggered up my shoulder.

I can’t get comfortable with it in bed, so on the settee under a heated throw dosed up on codeine.

Decided to make. Betty’s posh coffee to have with more painkillers and see if I can drop off again. It’s not a decent sleep so far, but I’ve had a bit.

I'm going to a friends tomorrow for a few days. I'm going to be melting (in cycle shorts & t shirt. I'm not cruel enough to wear a bikini!) I wish I could send you the excess heat (& I have my own heating on at 21.5, so it's not like I'm going from a freezing house to a heated one. 6 people in one sitting room & the heating on 🥵)

fitnessmummy · 24/12/2025 04:22

Can’t sleep either! I’ve just purchased a sale Joules Christmas jumper that I don’t need! I’m so tired but can’t sleep! Will want to sleep when it’s time to get up! Typical

Applepe · 24/12/2025 04:23

I’ve been awake since two ish. I’m hot. So much for magnesium. I’ll probably fall asleep again around 0530 😫

Hope all is well! Ours were last week, he was out of sorts all day after and needed lots of cuddles but back to normal the following day so fingers crossed for you! Keep up with the Calpol doses and get someone else to do the Christmas prep if you can!

xxxwd · 24/12/2025 04:24

Working … 3.5 hours to go!

Foxpooshampoo · 24/12/2025 04:26

The last couple of weeks most nights I wake at 4 on the dot. Then I can’t get back to sleep. This is so out of character o can’t even begin. I love sleep and can sleep anywhere.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 24/12/2025 04:28

I have nerve damage in my feet and it's painful tonight. I've just had paracetamol so I'm hoping I can have another couple of hours. Codeine is the last resort as it doesn't agree with me.

CoralOP · 24/12/2025 04:32

I'm having my usual 2 hours awake in the Night with mind racing, fun fun.

Neverthoughtiwould · 24/12/2025 04:36

I lost my son last year since when I usually spend hours awake every night. I am off to spend Christmas with my other son and his family later today and really need to sleep so that I can be on top of everything later. Hopefully I will nap on the journey and be able to find some joy in spending time with his family.

I have been reading too many threads about awful MIL’s so am learning tips on what annoying things I mustn’t do! I love them all to bits and would hate to be a nuisance

Nejma · 24/12/2025 04:36

I'm thirsty, need the loo and my tooth hurts.

It's so cosy in bed so I don't want to step out on the cold floor.

Can't find my slippers and don't want to search for socks as DC is in bed beside me so don't want to wake either human or kitten child Who is recovering from being neutered.

Loo, nurofen with a slug of water it is

Dulcie6 · 24/12/2025 04:38

Trying to ‘fart’ my 3 week old as she’s full of wind and waking up hourly. Yay.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 24/12/2025 04:47

Post-menopausal insomnia and too hot.

piscofrisco · 24/12/2025 04:48

I’ve got general insomnia anyway and have done since I was 17, but tonight it’s also been compounded by the 23rd December being a horrible sort of date for us-dd2 was badly attacked this day 4 years ago and whilst we went out and did Christmassy things which she said she wanted to do I could see she was struggling a bit. (She had a rough few years but is doing so well now-but of course key dates throw it up for her and us). I’ve been lying awake just feeling sad (and still angry with the bastard that did it)about the whole thing. At least the anniversary of it is now over so she will hopefully be able to enjoy the rest of Christmas.
