What will I do tomorrow - Christmas eve?

I went into work in November and nearly every second weekend I was called on to work on top of full time working weeks.

I am finally finishing tonight for a few days off. I am exhausted.

How I managed to prepare for my own family's Xmas I will never know. I nearly broke down today. I just didn't have the energy to write a card for someone.

Anyways, the groceries were done online for delivery thank goodness.

I am all ready for the Xmas.

However I forgot to buy wine. I am not feeding a gang of people. It's just me and my mother. She doesn't drink wine. I do have some alcohol at home in case I need to cope.

Yesterday in work was shit. I went into work and I was kept late but I had plans. I had to walk out from work last night even though they weren't going to let me finish. I didn't quit. I just had to go home. The lunch I packed in my back came home with me again unrated. The minute I was home I started drinking alcohol straight from a bottle. I do not have a problem by the way before you all gang up on me about this. Yesterday was nothing but a cunt day in work. Simple as that.

Anyways I forgot wine. I don't know if I should brave it to into town tomorrow to get a bottle of wine or two. I would like some mulled wine. Or if I should stay and home and just make do with he food and drinks I have.

What would you do in this situation? Forget the wine or go and get some?

I felt my legs go weak a few times in my work yesterday and today. The headache I have is unreal. Likely a migraine.

Not really sure what the problem is - the shops will all be open!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/12/2025 19:27

I would absolutely go and get wine. How close is the nearest shop? Could you get it from deliveroo or something similar?

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 23/12/2025 19:28

Is there a garage with a M&S/Waitrose/BP you can stop at quickly? Less hassle than the supermarket and they usually sell the wine ready chilled so you can pop straight home and get your Christmas started

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 23/12/2025 19:28

Or yes, deliveroo.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 23/12/2025 19:29

Oh and after Christmas you really need to talk to your LM at work. If you're having to work every second weekend with no toil then they have a staffing problem.

treacledan71 · 23/12/2025 19:30

Just get it local shop.

GalaxyJam · 23/12/2025 19:31

If you’d like some wine then go to the shop and get some. They’re all open tomorrow. I haven’t even done my Christmas food shop yet and we’re hosting, so there’s still plenty of time to buy a bottle of wine or two.
If you’re not bothered, don’t.

aintnothinbutagstring · 23/12/2025 19:41

I guess it depends on your preference for what drink you have with xmas dinner. However, if you're feeling weak and under the weather, I'd probably skip any alcohol until feeling better - especially migraine.

Catbrations · 23/12/2025 19:57

I want the wine but right now I am feeling crap. Just exhausted.

I might be ok after a sleep.

Are you a very long way from your nearest shop?

Ukholidaysaregreat · 23/12/2025 20:24

Get wine if it would enhance your Christmas. If it wouldn't, leave it. Have a good sleep and enjoy your days off. Think about whether you like this job or a different job would be better for you. Xxx

SayingThisWithLove · 23/12/2025 20:42

I promise I am not ganging up on you, there’s a tone in your post that hits close to me and I may be off the mark but I wanted to share this. These meetings have saved the life of a loved one who starting to use drink as a coping mechanism.

However right now, right this minute - I am so exhausted I would say that if I was to have a drink or two I would like stumble around and look drunk. I think I could maybe consider it tomorrow after noon. Or I have enough to have some drinks tomorrow and Xmas day and maybe I can get the wine the day after.

I trust you that you are not hanging up on me and telling em about alcohol anon. I am not an alcoholic. I can go weeks without having a drink. But right now I am going through and intense spell of so much fuckery in my work and also even at home.

Even if it was your last breath you need to go out to get wine. Enjoy xx

MyOtherProfile · 23/12/2025 20:48

I would do a whoosh order of some nice wine and chocolate.

Well, if you can go weeks without having a drink, you don't need any wine over Christmas then do you? So you can stay in and chill and not have to go near a shop. That's what I would do.

FromageTime · 23/12/2025 21:00

Just go and get wine. The shops won’t even be crowded tomorrow.

pambeesleyhalpert · 23/12/2025 21:04

Do you have Deliveroo? I’d get some ordered from a supermarket or go to a corner shop. Deffo get some. Sorry for the stressy day!!

Yes OP please god book yourself into rehab asap. Wanting a drink at Xmas is AWFUL behaviour. Give your head a wobble fgs!

Radiator981 · 23/12/2025 21:08

Bit OTT for wine though isn’t it OP if you don’t really drink!

BeeHive909 · 23/12/2025 21:16

It’s not about the wine is it? What’s really happening that’s causing you to drink or stress so much .
