Ah my people! I lit some candles this evening, to celebrate the start of longer days. Like others winter would be more bearable if the days were colder but brighter. This constant tan is just depressing.

I have a week in Tenerife booked for February but I think I’ll book December in 2026 it’s been so grim

Yay! Love this day arriving

I had to check this one. The summer solstice in Australia isn't until the 22nd; today. I'm sure there's a good reason for this.

Mind you, here in Melbourne it's cold, rainy and thundery. Christmas Day is tipped to be 18, so I'll be laying a fire on Christmas Eve.

Thank goodness. Hooray. Years ago I found this marvellous graphic on Twitter. I am sure the specifics will have moved slightly, but assume the gist of it is still the same (although I could be very wrong!), but I find this helpful when I wonder why I’m still getting up in the dark!

Well, the light is coming back and I suddenly feel a burst of energy! Possibly more to do with the fact that it's sunny this morning? Or that I've gone off my low carb diet for Christmas and there's suddenly loads of easily- accessible glucose from mince pies and beer rampaging around my system??

Or the fact that I went to Montol in Penzance last night, a prolonged and anarchic solstice celebration, so feel personally responsible for having played a part in bringing the sun back?

SabreIsMyFave · 22/12/2025 09:35

@BlueShed Great graphic there! @Hobnobswantshernameback I agree...

As I said another thread, I love this day, (the shortest day) because it's all uphill and more light than darkness from now on, and I always have everything done for Christmas at this point, and am really looking forward to it. And I have got nothing else to do. I actually haven't felt blue or low over the dark months - it usually comes along around in January for me if I get it. (Post Christmas blues!)
