Does anyone else actually love wrapping presents/gifting/cards?

There are so many miserable threads on here about how terrible Christmas is. Hating receiving cards - they go straight in the bin! Hate thinking of presents, hate all the wrapping paper and waste. God forbid you use a gift tag!

I understand that it’s difficult time for many people, especially with the cost of living and difficult family members. All the ‘wife work.’

HOWEVER. Is there anyone who actually enjoys all this festive stuff? Like genuinely WANTS to do it?

I absolutely love it! I spend months thinking of all the gifts for different family members and friends, researching and deciding. I love picking out all the cards and different designs, getting my kids into all the crafting and creating the little name tabs. Wrapping all the gifts to make them look pretty! No, I don’t necessarily have ‘all the time in the world’ but I love it!

Yes, the floor will need a mop, but I won’t do it because I’ll be sat with the kids drawing all the name tag labels. DH will very happily do that instead! Yes, there was washing to put away, but we’re all gonna sit together and hang up the cards in a chosen area of the room. Washing is boring.

Anyone else just find it fun and heartwarming and a reason to be happy? ANYONE?

I get so sad when Christmas is over.

Sorry but I find the whole thing a chore! I used to love Christmas when I was at home with my parents - I loved to choose presents for them and wrap them up beautifully. Unfortunately, my husband has little interest in Christmas and it has taken away most of the joy and magic for me. I miss that little thrill of excitement I used to get in the days leading up to Christmas Day!

TheChosenTwo · 21/12/2025 10:39

I like the wrapping although do find it a bit of an uncomfortable mission! I choose nice paper that looks pretty under our tree and any presents we receive from others will go at the back or underneath ours if the paper is ugly 😂😂
I’m not sad when it’s all over, we only got our
tree last Sunday and it’ll be down on Friday (we go away after Boxing Day every year and the tree comes down so our cleaner can magic the front room back to normal for when we get home from holiday and back to work/school mode).
I enjoy Christmas but it’s not an entire season for us, it’s a couple of weeks and then business as usual.

And before anyone has a go at me about my poor husband, he tells me his is incredibly thankful I do it all as he is not a fan!

I like wrapping presents! I like all the ribbons and paper and drawing little cartoons on the gift tags and doing mad bows and writing in cards. I don't like buying presents because I'm not good at it - I don't know what people want or how to extract this information from them (and my guessing is not good!!! It's legendarily bad in fact)

But I do like wrapping presents and decorating. I love the rustling soft feel of tissue paper and the bright colours and the crackle of stiff printed sheets.

StarlightLady · 21/12/2025 10:41

Nope. I need a detachable third arm that l can screw on for the purpose.

KStockHERO · 21/12/2025 10:42

Me.

I'm not fusses about cards but I absolutely love wrapping presents. I have a massive trunk with beautiful paper, ribbons, bows, tags, accessories etc.

I spend hours and hours wrapping presents so they look beautiful under my tree. I love the end result but I find it so incredibly relaxing and mindful. I lose whole days watching wrapping-up tips and videos on YT.

SeaAndStars · 21/12/2025 10:42

It's lovely to hear how much you and your family enjoy it all OP.
You obviously want to do it your way and good on you.

I love it for the kids , not for myself anymore

I love it, but I do spread the task out a bit so it's never overwhelming. My first presents were wrapped in October and I finished by late November. 4-5 nights of sticking on a film, sipping at port and wrapping 3-4 presents beautifully.

Christmas is entirely predictable timewise and lots can be done ahead. Do tiny bits at a time and you'll never be overwhelmed by the whole, you can just enjoy it.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 21/12/2025 10:53

I dont do cards but I do love choosing and wrapping presents.
I spend a few months putting all the cool looking stuff in my Amazon basket.
Then I have a day when i sit with a cup of tea and edit it down so that everyone has the best stuff that i can afford. Hide it in my "secret cupbord" as it comes in. Then I have a lovely day wrapping it. I always put on chritmas music and drink wine while Im doing it.
Its one of my favorite days over the christmas period.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/12/2025 10:55

I love wrapping presents and making things look pretty, although I don't go all out with fancy wrapping techniques and added doodahs. I always use pretty recycled and recyclable paper, with ribbon and gift tags.

I usually have all the presents bought by the end of October, and wrapped by the end of November. Doing things well in advance spreads the load and stress (if you get stressed by it, I don't) considerably.

slavetothekittens · 21/12/2025 11:04

Love choosing gifts and wrapping them. The challenges of awkward shapes, floor covered in wrapping paper, sellotape and gift tags/shiny things to stick on . Finding boxes to fit if things need posting and cats claiming said boxes, so finding more. Searching amongst the floor chaos for pens, tape and scissors that you only used minutes ago.....love it!

That’s so funny with the ugly paper!

I’m not spending time finding pretty paper that looks nice under my tree only for it to be covered up by ugly stuff 😂

I don’t send cards nor do I display the very few we receive - I hate the clutter!

Dh wraps what he’s bought for me and anything he picks up for the dc but his also tend to go at the back or underneath as his wrapping is clumsy - not that I’ll be telling him that 🫣

Waitingfordoggo · 21/12/2025 11:34

I like having a couple of days off work and spending time with the family, and I love all the eating- that is my favourite bit. The rest I could manage without though. I’m terrible at wrapping presents and I worry about all the extra waste around Christmas time. I’ve been around for quite a few years now and the novelty of Xmas has worn off a bit.

RitaandtheTiarasgonewiththewind · 21/12/2025 12:02

I enjoy buying and giving presents
Hate the wrapping as I've no patience.

JudgeBread · 21/12/2025 12:06

I absolutely love the wrapping, I took a gift wrapping course years ago for a job and still really enjoy doing fancy wrapping. I used to take in other people's presents and wrap them for a fee when I had a big break over Christmas!

Not so big on cards though. I still send them to my family members of older generations who I know will appreciate them, but millennial and younger I don't bother.

We're talking well over 15 years ago but I used to be part of the team in a department store responsible for all the displays, and at Christmas we'd do nights making the place look Festiveâ„¢

My boss got a lady in to teach us all how to wrap gifts in the most aesthetically pleasing way possible - just lots of tips like hiding seams, making paper patterns line up, ways to tie bows, ways to adorn presents etc. So we could wrap all the "fake" presents to look amazing under the trees AND participate in the gift wrapping service for customers. It was a lot of fun and I've continued using the skills!

I'm sure everything she taught us is readily available on tiktok these days but at the time I felt like I was in training to be an elf.

December is Christmas month here even though DS is a young adult. We still have advent calendars including a lovely Roger La Borde one each.
We've also made lego decorations and this morning made oranges with cloves. We have hot chocolates with stollen or lebkuchen every weekend and watch Christmas films in the week running up to Christmas eve when we have a big buffet.

I used to love wrapping presents but the amount of rubbish we produced just got too much so I made loads of gift bags and boxes with old wrapping paper and ribbons, I still enjoy the whole process though. Tree up beginning of December, cards and presents written and wrapped over the next couple of weeks and then a week with DS as he's home by then.

For me Christmas is the only good thing about winter!

I miss receiving cards and the Round Robin letters. I enjoyed reading them.
