Where's your (hidden) water meter?

Had a letter from water provider saying there's a water meter at our property and they're changing us over to water based on meter readings, not rateable value, as it'll be more beneficial.

If you've got a hidden water meter, where is it? I'd like to check it occasionally (as that's how we picked up my Mum had a hidden water leak).

It's clearly hidden as it's not in the room where the stop tap is and the pipe goes immediately into the kitchen, around two behind the cupboards and then under the length of the kitchen floorboards, so that'd be the obvious place as it's a few meters of initial pipework.

My last place it was outside in the pavement. Thames Water sent me a little map so I could find it (there were about 5 meters scattered around outside). I'm hoping to have one fitted here, but it will have to be inside as my little row of houses has a shared supply, so it can't be outside.

If you’ve been there paying by a different method for any length of time, I’m not sure they can do that. I expect they think it’ll bring them more money in.

A neighbour of mine was on a meter, and with a smaller household, and paid more than us.

I called Thames water as I couldn’t find mine and my bills were crazily high. They sent someone down within two weeks. He took the reading and it was updated on a system at the same day and my bill went down by half. I cancelled my direct debit in this time, so I wasn’t paying more than I needed to.

Ours is behind the washing machine at a really awkward angle, so you have to drag that right out every time you want to read it. So convenient!
