What are the actual attractions? I’m genuinely curious.. when we have tourists come to London.. for a holiday.. not to visit family or friends, what is it they’ve come for?m

OK, explanation as some of you are angry and that was not my intention
I don’t think my question was in any way negative.

i actually really like London (once upon a time i wanted to move down there) but wanted to understand from a tourists perspective. plus it might give me ideas of what to do if I do a trip down there again soon. It was raining and I was driving and I wondered! Shoot me lol. I should’ve posted elsewhere really.

Anyone I know who’s visited comes as an addition to seeing family and friends.
Some of you have been really really helpful. Others just a bit rude and I’m not sure why you don’t just scroll on 🤷🏽‍♀️

while I’m on here I may as well add, I don’t compare it to NY, I’ve been to NY and didn’t love it. But will be doing another trip with my other half in the future - I much preferred London.. but again I visited NY for a girls trip AND visited family lol.

“It was raining and I was driving and I wondered!”

You were posting on mumsnet while driving?

No lol I was driving and it was raining - my thought was about tourism and how it would even benefit the economy. Once I got home, later that evening I posted!

I didn’t realise MN was full of Londoners that get offended so easily.

I don’t think I need to explain myself, I asked a question or two and half of you are pissed I asked a question. Can’t win on this forum.

It's pissed OFF.

It's possible that half of us are pissed 🥴

Outside London, we’ve seen lots of Chinese tourists at Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford - the magnificent college dining room was used in the Harry Potter films. One of the college staff told us that all their £20 entrance fees were helping to keep the beautiful buildings and grounds going!
Oxford is usually full of all sorts of tourists anyway.

A Singaporean SiL told me that masses of Chinese tourists are also very keen
on Bicester Village (outlet shops) - they arrive by the coachload apparently.
