Is this a malicious communication offence if person a screenshots a post where someone is venting no names mentioned to the person they believe it’s about but like I said no names mentioned through a fake account. As surely if your intention wasn’t to be spiteful you would send it from your own account not a fake one?

Is the message indecent or grossly offensive?
And intended to cause anxiety or distress to the recipient or whoever sees it?

Poms · 11/12/2025 22:22

It sounds very unpleasant, but not criminal.

mindutopia · 11/12/2025 22:22

I don’t just sending a screenshot is malicious communication, no. Unless the content of the screenshot is indecent or grossly offensive (a violent video or a direct threat) and it’s clearly done with the intention of causing harm or fear. In my own experience of receiving a threatening message, I was told by the police that it would need to be more than one message, so multiple contact incidents rather than just one.

When I mean it was obviously done to cause that person to then argue with the other person when confronted the person who sent it replied “busy busy busy” so very dimissivinf

That doesn’t necessarily make it a police matter though.

No, one annoying message is not criminal.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/12/2025 22:42

Please can you be any more specific?

As in, a mutual friend of yours has posted shit about you (?) online, but not mentioning your name
Someone you know has screenshot it and sent it to you?
To wind you up and get you to argue with them?

It all sounds very infantile and I, as a police officer, would be rolling my eyes and wishing they'd never invented social media. Again.

If someone has threatened you or sent a menacing message that's really what the spirit of Mal Comms is about OP

All sounds very immature

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/12/2025 22:56

Well the 8 calls and spiteful message could be harassment but how do you know who it is?
