Why its hard being single at this time of year..........

because I'm the only one to get the decorations out of the flipping loft! My clearly expanding arse finds it harder each year to squeeze into the hatch and I wish I had a slim hipped other person around to help 😁😀

OMG, I came aggressively bustling into this thread about to wang on about how the only times many/most single people feel hard done by is when some smug twat comes along and does the head tilty poor you thing.

In this case, however, I fully agree on your principle. Although I sacked off all the Christmas decos and tree and everything a few years back. It's so depressing to have to take down in the cold January light and if I want a festive "fix", I just look over at my neighbour's house! It's really quite freeing, I recommend it!

You know what OP, seeing some of the threads on here recently it might be safer staying single and investing in some good loft ladders!

Brightbluesomething · 07/12/2025 16:06

I feel your pain! Two large boxes of decs in the loft and I’ve asked my teenage DD to help me later. It might not work as I suspect they’ll be a bit heavy for me to lift them down to her.
Plan B is waiting until DS comes back from Uni on Tuesday.….
It’s far less stressful and significantly cheaper this year now I’m single though.

I just took the decision not to store anything in the loft any more.

I threw away loads of crap until what was leftover would fit into The Cupboard of Doom which is easily accessible.

Angelic999 · 07/12/2025 16:44

I haven't bothered with my decorations yet. And might not. Really cba.

Same here it’s in a cupboard no man required to access. Life is more peaceful that way to 😉

@singthing after a few miserable years, this year is the first that I've actually wanted to get a tree and put it up ---for me! However it will all come down well before NYE - prefer the build up to Christmas Grin
@Upthenorth I have great loft ladders but they are so great and strong that they take up even more of the space that my backside needs to get up and down Grin.

@Brightbluesomething I decanted everything into 4 smaller boxes a few years ago - makes life much easier especially if you have a need for tinsel in the summer and can go straight to the tinsel box!!
@ChristmasinBrighton my cupboard of Doom needs a serious clear out - there are seat cushions in there from the previous owner who left me some lovely wooden garden chairs which have since rotted and gone to the tip. That can be a New Year Resolution 🤣🤣
@Angelic999 that's how I felt the last few years but had young adults home so did it for them but now 2/3 of them have 'life partners ' and will only be here for flying visits so just did them for me.

My Christmas decorations are now in a corner of my bedroom. Very small loft hatch plus my arthritis is not a good combo. Plus I'm too fat Lol

Snakehips47 · 07/12/2025 17:36

My daughter phoned me yesterday & asked if i had my tree up yet, it’s only a small one I keep in the attic , I don’t have the excitement for Christmas nowadays since all of the younger kids are now teenagers.
