Anybody else been defeated by this awful cold/flu?

I've been either on my sofa or in bed for the past two days. I'm either shivering or sweating. My throat is agony and drinking is painful, let alone eating. I feel drained but everytime I yawn, my throat and ear hurts. I also started with a tight pain in my chest but this has disappeared.

Anybody else want to join the thread and feel sorry for themselves? 😂

Yep. I had it two weeks ago ago and still struggling. Had a week in bed.

DD was off school for three days this week (very unusual for her!) but she seems to be better now.

Yes, feeling very sorry for myself. I have a heavy cold, started with a sore throat and last 2 days been like a comedy cold with sneezing that practically takes me off my feet! Went through 2 boxes of tissues yesterday, currently resemble Rudolph and my sinuses are on fire. No flu symptoms though thankfully.
Been awake since 4am though 😭
I was meant to be getting a haircut and going to ds's footie match. I'll be doing neither, I feel a schmaltzy Christmas movie coming on 😂

Nope and know absolutely no one who has.

Thankfully, DH was already taking DD out for the day so I'm planning on attempting a shower, getting fresh PJs on and slobbing out on the sofa.

It's totally floored me im now on day 6 , the fever/chills have gone and the burning chest and back when I cough has thankfully gone but im extremely tired and ears popped 2 days ago they are still very painful and the pressure in them i cant shift .. turn out the local hospital has 2 wards full of flu patients I've been of work since Monday I'm done with it now just want to feel normal again

I had it in October. Just before my flu vaccination! Think it might have been COVID but just guessing.

Gone down with another cold. My whole face hurts with sinusitis. Yesterday I was cold and just ate loads of junk. Runny nose, sneezing, headache. Still the same today.

Was your chest pain on one side? Mine was just under my left boob and was in the same area on my back. Thats gone now.

I've just put a load of washing on and it made me so breathless!

Yes! It's only just going after two weeks. I haven't been able to have any time off work.
Had pain in my boobs, my chest, back, a cough, neuralgia, my skin feels tight.

Yep for me I am hoping it’s just a bad cold but I started with uncontrollable coughing. I literally cannot stop . I managed some sleep last night propped up with 4 pillows but now have everything is in my sinuses and head .if I chopped my head off I would be fine I think
I have no time for this I was away most of November DH has helpfully dumped all the Xmas decorations from the garage in the house yesterday with the expectation I would do the tree today so I am falling over boxes . I had to cancel my manicure yesterday and my (fake)nails are so long now I literally struggle to press the loo button as my nail won’t fit in the space . I am massively behind at work because of my holiday so absolutely no room for sickness there and this is the only month of the year I actually have a social life and have no energy to go anywhere
And I am not even going to mention the fact it cost me £15 on day nurse and night nurse yesterday so this illness will probably bankrupt me too

No it was all over the top of my chest and the exact same at the top of my back it was like a burning stabbing pain . I got ibuprofen and paracetamol which bought my temp down and benylin mucus liquid for night time benylin tickley dry for daytime sucked on strepsils extra which was great for my roar razor throat and today been to boots for sinus pressure and pain relief max strength hopefully will help with the pressure in my ears . Hopefully im now turning the corner and hope you don't suffer to bad

I’m on day 4 in bed. Still feel pretty dreadful. Also stressed about work (missed two days), life (we were supposed to put our Xmas decorations up today) and everything else I am not doing and should have (the lid no longer fits on our washing basket it is so full). And I cry a lot as my emotions have gone a bit crazy. I’ve solved the problem by rewatching the last series of call the midwife so I have an excuse to cry.

DH and DS have had it and seem to be passing it back and forth to each other. DS was so sick that he slept for about 5 hours in the daytime, which is he never does. I am avoiding them both as much as possible!

I'm on week 3. While I don't feel ill anymore, I am still full of phlegm and can't stop coughing, and if I do anything strenuous then a. I cannot catch my breath and b. I start to feel that I'm getting ill again. I've only just started getting some sleep again the last few days as the pressure in my sinuses eased off. I'm desperate to start exercising again but I'm too exhausted to even consider it

Yes ! Started with DH , DS1 got it ended up in a&e he had 8 days off school! I'm on day 9 and now DS2 has it. We are day 14 and I cried today 😅

This is a new strain of flu which is very infectious and causes quite severe symptoms due to our lack of immunity to it. There have been stories in the news about the extra strain this is putting on A&E this year, and Spain has just brought back mandatory face masks in all healthcare settings because of it.

Yeah I'm sick right now. I keep trying to rally to get Christmas prep done but I get exhausted after 5 minutes. Then when I can go to bed I can't sleep for the fever, sore throat, sweating etc. I can afford a slower week this week but I need to be better by Friday, too much to do!

How are we all feeling today?

I had a rubbish night sleep as my glands are so swollen in my neck, I couldn't get comfortable. My throat is hurting. My ears have so much pressure in them. I've just sneezed and cried the pain was so bad and I've also got a rash on my neck now.

I keep waking up in PJs that are quite literally dripping in sweat as I'm so clammy through the night. 🙈

Yes! The emotions are unreal. I've cried about everything.

The flu side seems to be much better today,but the pressure in my ears is awful just wish the sinus tablets would hurry up and work 7 days of feeling bad is taking its toll today

How are we all feeling now? I started with a bunged up ear last weekend and now they're both the same. Can barely hear. No energy and now my throat is hurting again 😫

I've still got it. Still coughing, still going randomly hot and sweaty, my ear and throat hurt today.

It's a very depressing illness.

My heartbeat has stopped being peculiar though which is nice.

I randomly woke up on yesterday at 2am with the sweats, rapid heartbeat, fever and feeling awful. Yesterday and today have been hell with a cough that burns my chest, needing paracetamol to keep a fever at bay, body aches, runny nose and an insanely sore throat with a high heart rate and low blood pressure. I think my fever has broke now and I still feel weak but not as bad as I was which is nice so not sure what it is as it feels to have healed too quickly for flu but I am sure it is as I have never felt so poorly in my life!
