Psychics/mediums/spiritualists

Dollymylove · 02/12/2025 17:31

Anyone utilised the services of a psychic medium /spiritualist?
Is it all bunkum?
I thought so until I decided to go to a spiritualist church
I was picked out by the medium who described my late sister to a tee.
I was absolutely gobsmacked, there was no possibility she could have known me, or my sister!!
Anyone have any thoughts?

there are charlatans.
there are mediums.

telling them apart isn’t always easy but when you know theyve just told you something specific that you've never told a living soul you know they are the real deal.

No-one can speak to the dead.

Plenty can pretend to do so, and those are who you need to watch.

They're either delusional or out and out liars.

Why are you so sure that no-one can?

Why are you so sure that no-one can?

Because they’re dead 🙄

Do you honestly think there are billions and trillions of spirits floating around the atmosphere, just waiting for Doris from Stoke-on-Trent to get her ouija board out so they can have a quick natter?

I’d say there’s many more fake and misleading ones, like 9 bad to one good. Based on experience

I honestly feel sorry for people who simply dismiss things they can’t see or explain through conventional materialistic thinking. It reminds me of how, centuries ago, many people couldn’t accept the idea that the Earth revolved around the Sun — to them, it seemed like complete nonsense.
Perhaps one day, what we now call the “subtle” or invisible world, and the ability to perceive and interact with energy, will become much more widely accepted. For now, though, these ideas still seem completely marginal to many people.
Most of us were simply brought up to think in a certain way. Some people happen to encounter things in their lives that are difficult to explain within that framework, while others never do. In the end, that may be the only real difference.

I don’t simply dismiss things. I either use information I already know to explain them, or I file them under “I don’t understand this yet” and wait til a rational (ie not paranormal) explanation turns up. Which it so far always has. There are no properly investigated examples of paranormal activity that have survived investigation.

I don't like the idea of the spiritualist church. Pray for your loved ones to enter into heaven. Don't mess around with mediums, most I suspect are con artists. I do believe in life after death as a catholic but I don't think you should mess around with this. Just pray for them that is the best thing you can do for your dead relatives.

Proved by who and how?

Presumably by humans, even though they can't see whatever it is the pets are 'looking at'. Interesting concept that - proof of the invisible (that can't actually be seen by humans...)

But don't take my word for it. Ask any dog or cat to describe it for you, then you'll have incontrovertible evidence. For example, if your dog can say "sausages" it means he's just seen the ghost of a dead sausage. Or if your cat leaves a 'message' on the carpet it means she saw a ghost and couldn't get to the litter tray in time.

Stands to reason 🤷🏻‍♂️

MyMoneyIsAllSpent · 30/08/2026 02:34

Well. I went to see one. Started off with…‘I have a lady here, she’s here but not stepping forward. I feel she is a mother figure…. Oh, I have another female stepping forward. Lily. Her name is Lily’.

there was no question in that the name begins with L or it’s a flower name. He came right out with it. Lily. She was my mothers best friend and was the last person I expected to come through. ( the description of my mother was accurate) There are some mediums who are genuine. I don’t doubt that. My daughter has had messages about things no one knew. I think it’s easy to dismiss until you get a message that you can’t explain. Trouble is, people who rubbish mediums have not experienced receiving a deeply personal message. Do they even visit mediums? I’ve seen mediums who were totally off mark, others who were brilliant, and not deep, but were entertaining in identifying a future situation that came true. I don’t know and I go, not often, but I want to have a connection with loved ones who have passed. I don’t believe that those who love us leave us. Ok. To finish. I mentioned to my daughter the date would have been her granddads birthday. As I finished speaking my iron, resting on a shelf in my understairs cupboard, not just fell off the shelf but it shot out about 4ft into my kitchen. Now explain that to me!
Is it that those who dismiss these occasions never therefore experience them?

nomoremsniceperson · 30/08/2026 03:06

A friend went to see a medium a few years after her husband died. The medium told her to tell her daughter that her father still kept the poem she had written him in his breast pocket. He had been buried with a poem from the daughter in his breast pocket and this was a small detail only she and her daughter knew.

My dad went to see a medium after my mum died. I checked online to see if my dad had any accessible info about him - nothing. The medium was apparently a nice guy, charged v little, told my dad loads of stuff he couldn't have known, such as the exact very rare medical emergency that killed his younger sister, as well as many other details that were specific and correct.

I think there are charlatans and fakers but there are also people who really do seem to have a gift.

Thing is, that some people did not accept it, does not mean it was not known.

"Aristarchus of Samos was the first known person to propose that the Earth revolves around the Sun, doing so in the 3rd century BCE. However, his heliocentric theory gained few supporters and was largely forgotten for almost 1,800 years.

In the 16th century, Nicolaus Copernicus developed the first fully predictive mathematical model of a Sun-centred Solar System, helping to launch the Scientific Revolution and transform our understanding of the Universe."

Can anyone recommend a psychic whose predictions actually came true?

My friend and I used to go to a card reader once a year around New Years in our hometown in Germany and she used to lay cards for the year ahead. She was incredibly accurate and things she said always came to pass. Literally the only psychic I know whose predictions actually came true, but she never claimed to be a medium - she just read cards. She stopped taking on clients though and I've never been able to find another who is actually accurate with predictions.

Proved by who and how?

I’m going to start a new thread soon about something that happened quite recently - a case involving a man who performed a love spell on a woman, and the very disturbing consequences that followed.
Things eventually became so serious that it took the intervention of an experienced parapsychologist to help save her. There are some details in this story that I think are especially important, because they show just how serious the consequences of this kind of thing can be.
I’ll post a link to the thread here once it’s up. I really think this is something worth knowing about, and hopefully it will be helpful to some of you.

I think it would be very close minded of us to think we, in our current form as living beings, are the be all and end all of life.

I have had spiritual experiences with the dead so maybe it's easier for me to believe.

Just because we can't explain some things doesn't mean they don't exist.

And perhaps don't roll your eyes so readily or be so rude to people who are different to you 👍

As I promised, I’ve started a thread about a true story here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/relationships/5572644-a-love-spell-nearly-destroyed-her-life-a-true-story

Which everyone is laughing at, because, even if people believed in 'love spells', your story makes absolutely no sense. You imply that 'John' used a 'love spell' on Emily, but neither of them seems particularly into the other, and he's the one avoiding discussion of their future marriage, whereas she's clearly keener on the idea.

Epoisses · 30/08/2026 12:35

I don't believe in life after death at all.
So signs like feathers, robins etc I dismiss. Ds died 2 years ago and i have never felt anything nor would I want to.

RubberyChicken · 30/08/2026 12:41

I wasn't sure until I saw Clinton Baptiste. I'm getting the word..............

Littlek0406 · 30/08/2026 13:10

Been to a couple;
The first one told me, I should tell my mum, I was pregnant. Nobody ever knew except for my partner, I was pregnant plus I wasn’t showing I was four weeks into the pregnancy then told me my brain was going be okay, 18 months before I just had a brain tumour removed.

The second one told me she couldn’t read me.

And the final one had was about five years ago, and this one blew my mind. I’ve got sister who’s passed away now. He told me stuff that only me and my sister knew, she said to him that she loved song that we played at her a funeral plus the name the song, told me that I can have my green top back, which was mine anyway, said she's a little boy following her around which was my a son that I miscarried plus loads of others things.

I believe. I have had too many experiences not to.

I went to a spiritualist church with a friend after her DP died in an accident.

A visiting medium did sketches of the people she was communicating with and handed one over to my friend. It was staggering in it's accuracy and detail. In fact, when we got back to her house, we put the sketch side by side with her most recent photo of him and even the angles were correct.

At no point had my friend even spoken to the medium. The medium had spoken to some people in the congregation but this sketch was handed over as we were going out of the door.

Everything, eye colour, face shape, moustache, colouring, eyelashes, nose shape, hairline. Even a tiny mole on his cheek.

Did your friends late DP go to the same church ?

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/08/2026 14:30

I don’t believe anyone can talk to the dead.
however I do think that some people have a developed “sixth sense” for want of a better term. They are able to pick up and act on subtle cues that others don’t notice.
eventually I think that science will find the answer.
its a bit like night terrors. Before the cause was discovered being possessed or experiencing the supernatural would Have been the sole explanation.

No. None of us had gone to a spiritualist church before. I've never been since.

She was struggling so much over his death that a friend suggested it to her and she asked if I would go with her. It was nice. Very light and lovely service.

The sketch looks like it was done from her most recent photo of him - genuinely.
