Dp got really drunk at family wedding. Im just in bed feeling sorry for myself. How to adress this on the morning.

OP posts:

Sounds like he was being obnoxious. Tell him off and let him know he was rude and embarrassing. My ex was like this at my brother’s wedding. Turned out he was in the early throes of alcoholism (hence now ex).

Agree. Painful isn’t it? OP just say what happened makes life easier for all
of us.

Very similar style of writing and pace of responding, too.

Yeah this is exactly what it reminded me of 🤔

Sounds like he had a good time and you ruined it for yourself and others with your attitude.

If you want to be angry with him, be angry with him but you won’t get validation for that anger by telling people “he was uncharacteristically drunk at a wedding and spoke negatively about some people who there also at the wedding.

Ahfiddlesticks · 30/11/2025 21:51

Is this a regular thing?

If it's a one off, he'll probably feel rubbish in the morning and I wouldn't say anything about it.

If it's a regular thing then I'd be thinking differently.

This isn't Twitter circa 2011 with a character limit, you can write more than 1 sentence at a time you know. Maybe even a paragraph?

JoWilkinsonsno1fan · 30/11/2025 22:12

I have no idea what has gone on - just say whats happened!!

At the moment all we have is he got drunk, he asked people for drinks, your Dad is ill (was he at the wedding?) and he talked about your family (was he unkind?)

Lemonysnickety · 30/11/2025 22:13

Maybe he was frustrated because he struggles with your day to day communication style and he was letting off steam with other guests.

Redburnett · 30/11/2025 22:19

Probably best to just write it off as a one off unfortunate event. You sound as though you want to punish him for it, but it almost certainly isn't worth it. If he has seriously offended someone he should apologise but apart from that try and forget it.

NimbleDreamer · 30/11/2025 22:31

Nope. Can't be arsed with a watching paint dry drip feed thread.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 30/11/2025 22:36

Wedding on your side of the family. Your dad is ill so already a worrying time.

Your DP was embarrassing while drunk, talking loudly and negatively about your family members, upsetting your son, and asking people to buy him drinks. All of which upset your dad, who’s already poorly.

I mean, it’s embarrassing and people will think he’s an arsehole. but there’s not much to do except tell him next time he isn’t coming.

You seem to be really overstretching there and attacking the OP without information to back that up! It's not fun for people to have a bad drunk in the room that's demanding drinks from people, making his son cry and creating tension between the OPs family by bitching about people! Why would you applaud that behaviour and pick on the OP and bizarrely accuse her of ruining anything for anyone! Do you get drunk and behave like he did?
