At school, when a child has chewing gum or a drink or just in general anything to eat, why is it so common for other students (whether their friends or not) to ask for some?
I noticed this when before I recently left school and even now, for instance, I’d be drinking a bottle of water or a drink at break time or in the lesson and someone would ask for a sip. I thought that was really weird because it’s not like they were dying of thirst all the time and then when you let when once person have a sip, others would ask for some too. But, more to the point, why would you ask to drink from someone else’s bottle instead of getting your own?
Likewise, whenever I or someone else had chewing gum, everyone in the class would suddenly want some; or if someone had a chocolate, everyone would be asking for a piece. I just found that to be extremely greedy since personally, no matter how hungry I was, I would never ask for food from someone else.
Do you know why students may behave like this? Is it because they maybe don’t get fed well at home?
