Is the Paris metro safe for a solo female?

Literally this. Not overly worried about pickpocketing, more violence related incidents...

totally safe, just be aware of surroundings as on any other public transport.

Palourdes · 28/11/2025 22:02

Same as the tube, only with fewer escalators.

CassandraMortmayne · 28/11/2025 22:03

Yes it’s fine, was there over the summer and it felt as safe as London - obv keep your wits about you as in any big city.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 28/11/2025 22:03

It's absolutely fine (but the Paris Metro is the only time I have ever been pickpocketed!). Obviously be careful if you're out late at night, but that's the same for any other big city.

I imagine there are a lot of women in Paris who travel on the metro without a male escort and if they were being attacked frequently I think we'd have heard about it.

I wouldn't be so sure. I mean we never hear about London under sharia law now, do we ?

And this poor sod only just made it out to tell the tale.

Paris is a major city. Lots of women live and work there, not all of them married. Of course it is safe.

How is that bloke not embarrassed to post that. At least the reform nuts generally have a photo/video that can be misconstrued to suit their rhetoric.

(Fire engine goes past) "It's all kicking off !"

What do you think women in Paris and female visitors to Paris, do?

Do you never do anything “solo” here?
How do you manage?

(Sorry, but you do sound feeble.)

Im going back a few years so not a recent experience and quite distinctly different to all those above. I unfortunately was followed and asked to come back to a group of 30ish year olds flats- it distinctly felt like a scene out Taken. I refused obviously and asked them to leave me alone, they didn't. Eventually I exited at my stop they followed me off and veey luckily a police officer was on the platform. They turned on their heels and got back on. For this i would never try again. I do regularly use LUG and network rail still.

JudgeBread · 29/11/2025 12:51

Why wouldn't it be? What do you think all the French women do, travel in packs? Hire a bodyguard? Carry une stale baguette to whack any le troublemakers in the face?

TadpolesInPool · 29/11/2025 13:31

I did it every day for 16 years with not one single problem.

The only uncomfortable situation was when I had left a nightclub at 5am and was alone walking through long tunnels between 2 metro lines. I thought a bloke was following me so turned round and yelled at him to stop it. He stopped and I didnt see him again.

In my now not alcohol befuddled state I realise he was probably just going between the same two metro lines as I was 😳

Edit: correcting my English 🤦‍♀️
