Is it daft that I'm nearly crying?

Weekend Freedom GIF by grizlor

My DS is 3 years and nearly 3 months old. He's on the pathway for assessment for autism. MmHe's basically not got any words yet . However for the past two days when he wants to get my attention he's started repeating momomomom. As soon as I heard it the first time I got tears in my eyes because obviously I was starting to believe I'd never hear the word mom at all😢 I've honestly never felt so proud and emotional at all. Every time I hear it I get such a pang in my heart😊 haven't got friends so just wanted someone to know, I know I'm a dafty😂

That’s great OP. My niece is profoundly autistic and I remember my sister saying the same thing. Her DD is 16 now and can say some words but it then dissolves into nonsense. But she clearly wished me ‘happy birthday Monday’ when she got off her school bus (she goes to a special school) without any prompting which touched my heart. It’s these little moments that bring joy to a very hard situation.

Is it daft to be emotional that your lovely son has taken a big step forward, @Devilsmommy? Of course not! Have a cry then celebrate!

I remember that feeling OP. I also remember a few months later telling DH I wish we could go back to that speech therapist to get him to STFU. Once it started it never stopped for us and it was easy lose sight of how big a milestone it was.
