Weird things you find satisfying

When I vacuum gritty stuff like grains, cats litter or remnants of her food that has dried (she’s a messy eater!!) I like the noise it makes as it get sucked up.

Another vacuum one, every couple months I get old tweezers and a thin wire to pick at the dust that’s in the vacuum head, the wheels, brushes, hard to reach spots. Extra satisfying if there’s a substantial little dust bunny hiding in the crevices.

After washing and drying the cat's bedding, her fur ends up as little balls stuck on the sheets. I just like picking them off.

My peak weird thing is being at my DH’s side while he wraps my presents. I can’t see what they are because I’m blindfolded, but that’s the small price of hearing him do it - I look forward to it before every present-giving occasion.

Clearing the fluff in the tumble dryer filter !

Yeah that one’s really weird.

Bins for me too. Putting everything i can find in the right one and having them on the kerb the night before. Weirdly satisfying and bonus points if I don't have to rely on the neighbours to know which one is going out.

I have a 'wind-up' torch with a press lever that does the 'winding'. Repeatedly pressing the lever with the torch in my pocket is weirdly satisfying, and it adds to the satisfaction to know it's useful, too. It's like a fidget toy (lots of these available now).

Taking the fluff off the tumble drier filter. I often "forget" to do it so it's thicker the next time
Clipping one particular toenail- 2nd toe, left foot, it grows more quickly than the others.

Sweeping my kitchen floor and using my
old fashion cotton mop and bucket of hot water to wash it, every day.

Sweeping piles and piles of leaves up, bagging them and taking to the tip. My little garden looks so fresh after that exercise.

I find sweeping is calming and therapeutic. 🙄

Cradle cap 😍

I also TikTok people picking psoriasis off their scalps. I remember my first husband had very short hair and he got sunburnt on holiday.. his entire scalp was one bit flake. The only warm memory I have of that marriage is standing on the balcony and him letting me pick it off, flake by flake with my tweezers. I piled all the 50p size pieces in a little tower. It was fucking bliss.

Having seen this one, I reckon I'm safe to "confess" to mine: I have very dry skin in my ears and I tend to pick them. It's very satisfying (and rare) to get a large "chunk". I half expect to extract a whole impression of my inner ear. Like a snake.

Putting fridge shop items away in the fridge so that you see everything and certain areas. Hate it when DH throws everything in so you have to search through the shelves.

So sad and petty, is this what we've become lol 😆

DinoLil · 29/11/2025 23:33

@VictoriousPunge NOOOOOO! That sound, and the road sweeper, still terrifies me.

Bubble wrap, however...now that's lovely!

Feel free to come & stay!

I love it when a little ball of earwax gets to the edge of my baby’s ear and rolling it out.
Tweezing the one particularly thick wiry moustache hair out that grows every few months.
Hanging up the washing.
Deadheading the petunias.

I love removing the seeds from pomegranates intact! It’s deliciously sticky and they have a tendency to explode everywhere if you crack the pomegranate open too aggressively but it’s AMAZINGLY satisfying to fish them all out.

I've just taken the seeds out of a pomegranate and the kitchen looks like a crime scene. Red everywhere!

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 29/11/2025 23:48

Like @Chinsupmeloves putting the shopping away, mostly the fridge stuff. Everything has its own place labels facing forward, in date order etc etc

I wash t towels (almost all white) and dishcloths (all white with blue or green stripe) in one wash & I love pegging them out (in strict order) on the line.

basically anything that involves sorting, lining things up, organising....

I think I'm undiagnosed...

Cleaning out and then scrubbing hair brushes.
The very occasional time that I wear them, biting false nails off, hoping to get them off in one go.
Popping the odd fleas I find on my cats, with my thumbnail. They're treated monthly, but there are a lot of cats round here that they play and rub shoulders with, so the odd one here and there is inevitable.
Using a nit comb to comb my cats, then letting them sniff the fur I get off them! Although I think they're weird for wanting to sniff it!
Cleaning the remote controls with a disinfectant wipe and seeing the muck come off.
Scalding out and disinfecting the kitchen bin and lid. Also, putting a new bag in, I have to have it "fitted" properly, whereas DH just shoves it in all twisted, which bugs me no end!
Cleaning my ear piercings and the earrings (3 on each side). I don't know why I find this satisfying, but I love to get the dirty bits out of the holes that you don't realise are there!
Cleaning the air vents in the car with that (fart sounds in a tub!) gel stuff.
Wiping round and disinfecting the work tops in the kitchen. And giving the edge sides of the hob and sink a good scrub with a wooden skewer!
There will be loads more, but it's late and I can't think!

Getting the stringy bits out of peach stones.

Zapx · 03/12/2025 22:19

Peeling dried pva glue off anything really, hands, surfaces…!

whatsnewpussycat34 · 03/12/2025 22:55

My cat was always scrapping and I used to rummage around under his fur and pull the scabs off him! Sometimes they came off in a perfect scratch line. Bliss.
