What a pointless budget. Pathetic

Am I right in thinking this budget will raise no revenue.

A Change coming in 2027 here
Another one in 2029. What a joke.

We are hard hit as a family if these things go through but I can't see them getting in. Keir and RR are obviously going to be kicked out soon. The rumblings are already there.

Then a GE and Labour will lose. That's a given.

Just put a penny on income tax and be done with it.

Yes, it’s all a mess.

Meanwhile there are huge corporations who are registered offshore and paying little or no tax to the UK despite operating here and taking a big chunk of consumer spending.

Those tax loopholes need to be closed and will bring in millions.

It all just seems very amateurish.

JamesClyman · 26/11/2025 23:35

Given that Labour MPs refused to back an increase in income tax due to the manifesto commitment, that was never going to happen.

In the circumstances, I think it was an excellent budget.

LadyGAgain · 26/11/2025 23:37

A penny or two on income tax would have been fine. Ensuring that companies like StarBucks pay their way would go a LONG WAY. How many people on here buy there? (And others?)

Come and over to our place..

Starbucks and Cafe Nero are just two examples of exactly who I was referring to.

I can’t quite believe nobody has the sense to sort it out. I used to believe, naively, that the people in power knew what they were doing and made well considered decisions. Seems laughable now. Just sheer incompetence and lack of basic understanding.

They’re putting some tax on imported goods -can’t be much or you’d hear more about it

Daisymay8 · 27/11/2025 08:56

Oh here it is - proposal to come in in 2029 - absolutely pathetic

Consultation description
Currently, low value imports (LVIs) – goods with a value of £135 or less being imported into the UK – can claim a customs duty relief. VAT is due on these goods following reforms in 2021.
Following a significant increase in LVI volumes over recent years, the government has reviewed the existing customs arrangements for LVIs and concluded that these require reform. At Autumn Budget 2025, the Chancellor announced the removal of the relief from March 2029 at the latest.
This consultation covers the design of the new arrangements, including what data to collect, how the tariff should be applied, whether to apply an additional fee on LVIs to fund administration, and potential changes to VAT collection to reflect the new arrangements.
How to respond
The consultation will close on 6 March 2026.

Exactly @Daisymay8

All these proposals are years away. So basically spend all the cash now lose the election and blame someone else.

I think Labour have realised they prefer that position
