I keep on having nightmares about the end of the world

For the past 4 months or so, I’ve had continuous nightmares that involve a world war and nuclear weapons being used, as a result I’ve stopped reading the news which I think was a contributor, but I’m still getting the nightmares, which are now becoming worries in my everyday life. I’m a single parent, and my thoughts are leading me down horrible worries like ‘will this by our last Christmas?’. FYI this is all internal, I never share this with my son, but it does eat me up quite a bit, especially at nights. Is therapy best?

I would go to see your GP, yes. Your worries are affecting your daily life now.

I had a very vivid dream where I was told there would be a nuclear war in 2027.

I think the likelihood of such an event is extremely small. Look how long it's been since there was a world wide disaster (meteor) and we are developing tools to circumvent such things.

We will not destroy ourselves through war

How old is your child op?

I had horrible intrusive thoughts like this and dreams similar when I had my ds but it was post partum anxiety.

You need to speak to your gp and get appropriate support for yourself. It's normal and very common but that doesn't mean you need to live with it.

I'd also say that being a lone parent is really daunting as you're solely responsible for the welfare of the most important thing in your world. I noticed a lot of my ppa intrusive thoughts picked up again when I became a lone parent and it took some time for that to acclimatise. Counselling has really helped me plus being very ruthless with what I consume in the media/ TV/ social media etc.
