And apparently even more nutritious when you leave the skin on.

I never knew this was a thing! I always peel them.
I've just googled it and you are right.
Thank you so much.

Sprogonthetyne · 23/11/2025 20:07

I had been peeling and cutting them up to put in lunch boxes for years before seeing DS just bite into one skin and all. So much easier

Im on healthy eating after naaty flu, tooth extraction and feeling rubbish

Never really eaten kiwi but packed full of Vit C...peeled it yesterday and sluced and fiddly and juice eveeywhere, messy.

But today, I washed, sliced bit of the top off and scooped out like an egg.

Dont fancy the skin though

I bought some golden yellow ones from M&S and they are lush

Sorry for such a boring post 😂

I either cut off both ends then peel or cut in half and use my special kiwi spoon. I lived abroad and they came with the packets of kiwis. It plastic, and has a 'knife' 1 end and a spoon the other- but its the exact angle of a kiwi so scoops it out perfectly.

I've never eaten the furry skins 😕

I prefer the golden kiwi as they are sweeter and less sharp/sour.

TheChosenTwo · 23/11/2025 20:15

I just chop the top and bottom off and eat it as a whole fruit, all my dc eat them like that too.
i put them in lunchboxes with the tops and bottoms chopped off and they’d just munch their way through them. I love kiwi!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 23/11/2025 20:15

Scrub the skin so some of the furriness is removed and eat like an apple. It takes a bit of getting used to but it’s a game changer and so much goodness in the skin.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/11/2025 20:16

Does anyone get a really sore mouth if any of the skin touches it? I’ve always eaten kiwis like a boiled egg!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/11/2025 20:16

No fucking way am I eating the skin of a kiwi fruit.
Same as eating a pumice stone, I would think.

SouthernNights59 · 23/11/2025 20:18

Yes you can eat the skin, but I don't even though I eat things like potato and pumpkin skin - it's really not that nice.

Just cut the fruit in half and then scoop out both bits.

Incidentally, they are called kiwi fruit, not "kiwi" which is a bird.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 23/11/2025 20:23

I love Kiwi but can't eat the skin, although I did try!!!

I think that's a sign you're mildly allergic to them. Loads of people are.

StruggleFlourish · 23/11/2025 20:48

The way I always ate a kiwi fruit was to take a vegetable peeler and peel the outside which was messy. Then I would slice it. I didn't need a lot of kiwi fruit.

About 20 years ago I had a cousin from Australia come and spend some time with me, and she couldn't believe what I was doing. She said let me show you how we do it. She took a knife and cut the kiwi fruit in half, then took a spoon and scooped it out, rather like what you would do with a boiled egg in its shell.

And I thought, huh. Well that's different.

Course, she'd never seen frozen orange juice concentrate in a cardboard tube with aluminum top and bottom like we have, so easy, to store in your freezer, pull off the top, throw into a jug, measure three empty containers worth of water and throw it into the jug, you don't have to measure or anything, it's already the correct proportions. So that was something that she learned.

henlake7 · 23/11/2025 20:55

I have never tried eating the skin, not sure about all the fluff!
I usually cut mine into quarters like an orange.

kiwiblue · 23/11/2025 20:59

If you get the gold ones, they are much less hairy and so it is totally fine to slice them and eat them, skins and all. They are so yummy and the best part is just under the skin.

Yay to the poster who said they're kiwi fruit not kiwis 😁

They grow oranges in Australia, so why the fuck would she need to learn that?

gamerchick · 23/11/2025 21:00

OneFootAfterTheOther · 23/11/2025 21:02

We even put them in egg cups!

gucciandscandal · 23/11/2025 21:03

Cut it half and scoop out with a spoon. If I ate the skin I’d look like I’d just had my lips done 🤣 I appreciate I must have a mild allergy

FeyreandRhysand · 23/11/2025 21:05

I’ve always eaten them skin on, the skin doesn’t taste of anything and it’s less faff, plus they’re full of fibre!

My stepdad was outraged when he learnt this and thinks it was just DM being too lazy to chop kiwi up for us as kids!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/11/2025 21:08

I get so much eye rolling at work because I eat a kiwi like an apple... I really love the sensation of the furry skin

PigeonsandSquirrels · 23/11/2025 21:11

I eat it like a pear. Skin and all. Most of the fibre is in the skin.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 23/11/2025 21:13

Have you tried Kiwi berrys from M & S? Grape size kiwis, no fuzz and they are like little juicy sweet kiwis. Not often in stock but when they are they are worth it.

Yeah… that’s not meant to happen and please be aware that allergies can get worse the more you’re exposed to the allergen. If you keep eating it you could get anaphylaxis!

MinnieCauldwell · 23/11/2025 21:21

Skin is very nutritious and good for constipation!
