Someone just punched my door

Why would anyone do this? Im sat downstairs in my house about 15 minutes ago a young man has just came to my door and punched it and ran away?! Luckily I have a ring door bell so saw exactly what happened but he appeared to be alone so not like he was with friends egging him on or anything, I definitely don’t know him. Has anyone had this happen? It was really loud so obviously scared me, this is why I hate living alone just feel vulnerable now.

Yep. This has happened to us. Nothing happened since, it was a random banging on the door. We decided it must’ve been someone off their face on drink or drugs and likely wouldn’t remember it the next morning.

It’s horrible when it happens. We have a Ring light now too which has a siren on it. Knowing we can set that off if needed it extra peace of mind.

Thank you I think the siren is a good idea I will look into that

Hope you can sleep now. As they have gone, and not come back, they likely have done it to more than just your door and won’t remember which ones they punched, if they even remember it at all. Hopefully they will have stepped in some dog poo in the dark on their way home. 💐

Can you show us?

Endofyear · 23/11/2025 13:23

We had someone bang the door after midnight the other night just as I was dropping off to sleep 😩 DH went down and opened the door but there was no-one there, he looked up and down the street (we live on a long straight main road) and there was no sign of anyone. My heart was hammering and it took me ages to get to sleep after that! I'm assuming it was drunk idiots mucking about on their walk home!

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 13:24

Probably the wrong house.

whyohwhyyyyoh · 23/11/2025 13:30

No it wasn’t, he punched the door and ran off, he wasn’t knocking the door looking for someone I have the ring door bell footage

Thanks all feeling better today just a bit spooked as it was so random! Apparently it’s a “tik tok craze” maybe during the day but not at night 2am 😒 I have a screen shot I can post but not sure if mumsnet allow it?

What I meant was he probably realised it was the wrong place, hence running off.

It would scare most people but try not to dwell.

We had this a few weeks back - it doesn’t surprise me that it’s a stupid TikTok craze.
A gang of boys went through the whole village doing this, absolutely terrifying some elderly residents who live alone. Also inflicted some vandalism as well.
Very stupid boys, as there is now a slew of ring doorbell footage, so it was very obvious who they were - and everyone knows everyone in a village…

Old as the hills. Called knock down ginger when we were kids.
pretty stupid when you know you’re being filmed.

I know kids use to knock on doors but never at 2am and it was an adult would guess between 18-20
