What leave do I use for this?

I am having a planned procedure in dec and I will be in hospital under sedation. It’s a quick procedure but I cannot drive etc for 24 hours. What leave do I use for this? Do I put in sick leave and maybe upload the appointment letter? Never done this before and I’m just pondering over it. I was going to book annual leave but now I’m thinking surely not?!

I had an operation under a general anaesthetic earlier this year and booked annual leave for it, with it being on a Friday. I expected to be fine and back at work in the Monday, albeit WFH. However I had complications and lost a lot of blood so was kept in longer. When I spoke to my manager I was told to self cert for a week and recover. Which I did since I never use any of my very generous sick pay allowance.
