Just woke up to spider on my pillow

Well this is shit.

Woke up to the toddler (who was in bed with me) hitting me on the arm saying “mummy” over and over again. Sat up to check my phone to see the time and it was 5.41. In the darkness with the light of my phone screen I could see a black spot on the pillow next to where my head has been. Couldn’t work out what it was so turned my torch on and it was a spider. Sitting on the pillow. Where my face just was.

So is that it for me and sleep then?? Will I ever sleep again?

I mean what are the fucking chances??? To have one right on my pillow as I wake up??

I hate hate hate spiders so I always remember that urban legend that one crawls across your face while you’re sleeping 7 times a year or something like that. So it’s actually true?? Did I catch one red handed?

I’ve only had 4 hours sleep as well due to work and the kids waking up last night! And have a full day of work ahead of my. Fuck my fucking life.

He was probably out on a search party looking for his friend. Who crawled into your mouth and you swallowed him. 🙂

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/11/2025 06:18

I hope he had a good sleep!

Lol in all seriousness I would hate it too but it's gone now so just try and relax.

I was once woken in the middle of the night by a whole spider nest falling from the ceiling onto my face, scattering thousands of spiderlings across the bed.
A spider on the pillow wouldn’t faze me now, but I do dust above the bed very regularly these days.

Gettoachiro · 21/11/2025 06:35

God I feel for you OP 😵😵 My heart would have gone kaput!

I have no fear of a random spider but that is fucking terrifying!!

landlordhell · 21/11/2025 06:40

Oh god that’s horrible. When I was a teen I had constructed a voile drape over my bed. I woke up to a huge spider inches from my face. I slid off the bed horizontally and called my mum! Have never wanted anything above my bed / four poster bed in a hotel or something g since .

I once woke up to an enormous cockroach, sitting in my hand, in the Philippines. Slept with the light on for a while ngl.

surreygirly · 21/11/2025 09:02

He was tired

Oh blimey just seen the biggest spider web in the world has been discovered, on breakfast TV. 100,000 spiders in it apparently. That’s Greece out for holidays next year then.

You are a wicked person and I hope you will go and reflect on the ramifications of this post with shame and humility.

Gosh that’s terrifying!! I wasn’t approved absolutely terrified when I was in Africa on safari, and also on an island tree tip retreat - fabulous honeymoon but the thought of spiders in my room at night was horrifying!! Thankfully we had netting, for the mosquitoes, and for me, the insects too lol 😂

Jugendstiel · 21/11/2025 09:24

Then he should sleep in his own bloody web. I once went to bed and a massive spider dropped down on a thread and dangled over me, taunting and tormenting. Luckily one of the key reasons I married DH is that he is a knight in shining pyjamas who valiantly captures spiders and casts them beyond the walls of our home.

The OP's post has made me very nervous of ever sleeping again. I'd buy a net but supposing the spider got trapped inside it????

Jugendstiel · 21/11/2025 09:27

Shit, this thread is my punishment for being on MN when I should be working. The stories on here are Room 101 level.

Please would you now come back and say 'Only joking', even if you weren't?

Disturbia81 · 21/11/2025 09:35

I once noticed a giant house spider on my wall next to my bed just before I went to sleep but it ran off before I could catch it. Now I don’t mind spiders but still don’t want the big ones on me. Anyway I saw there was my usual cellar spider chilling in the corner and jokingly said to him “will you take care of that for me please” and fell asleep
Next morning woke up to the giant house spider dead and coccooned neatly in web and dropped next to my face 😂

I’m surprised it was near your head, they don’t usually wanna be near us

InMySpareTime · 21/11/2025 10:17

@Jugendstiel erm, only joking.

As a backpacker staying in a hut (thatched roof) in a national park in Nepal I was wakened by something happening at the back of my neck.

It was a great big black cockroach.

I can never forget that.
