Car seat leather splitting what can I do?

The driver's seat in my car is splitting in the leather or fake leather ?? What would be the best way to repair it or at least stop it getting worse? My mum suggested rubbing oil into it.

I've looked for a seat cushion to cover it of some sort, but it's a heated seat so I don't want to put a thick cushion on it and have read everywhere that the thin covers slip.

Google your car type and your issue and loads of advice will come up on the internet and it does make a difference whether it's leather or not. I just googled my car and the same issue, and three pages of results came up.

That's weird because I've googled it and nothing much came up. Just hoped someone in here might have had the same problem.

I don't know how to tell if it's real leather.

Can I ask what car it is? I know a version of my car is having this problem 2 years in

Well what car is it? I'm not sure how you don't know - wasn't this in the specs when you bought it? You can't ask if someone has had the same problem when you don't know the material and they don't know what car.

It's a Vauxhall Corsa, 2013, and I bought it second hand so not in the specs no.

I bought my car in 2012 second hand and I know what seats it has! Is it a VXR?

Flapjacker48 · 20/11/2025 04:33

This is a well known fault on the side bolster of corsas of this era. Even low mileage examples have it! Other than covers I don't think there is really a solution.

jomaIone · 20/11/2025 06:08

I mean ... The car is 12 years old so yes it probably is showing signs of wear and tear!! It your car was 2023 then maybe there would be a fault... But not 2013

Pedallleur · 20/11/2025 06:47

It won't be leather in a Corsa. Poss some googling on car seat repair/recover

I wasn't saying it's a fault, I'd just like to make it look better and stop it tearing more.

Well I don't know. It doesn't have a number on it so probably standard edition.

For a 2013 car you could probably find a
matching replacement seat from a
scrapyard or E bay for not a lot of money.
