im travelling to London soon and will be spending time at the museums (Science Museum, Natural History Museum etc). I’d like any recommendations for a decent hotel close by. Doesn’t have to be very close, I’m happy to have a bit of walk to get there. Or a reasonable underground journey. Budget is mid range. Any recs?

There’s a premier inn nearby. I’m always happy to stay there on my own.

OP, any hotel is suitable for a "lone female".
Work out your budget per night and start from there! (I don't know what you mean by "mid range" - that sounds like approx £250 per night, at current London prices).
Try Mornington Kensington.... it's Earl's Court, but you'll pay a premium forvactial Kensington, and it's recently refurbished.

In this situation I would always suggest the copthorne off Kensington high st - boots , M&S plus nice cafes and restaurants all close, big corporate hotel, it’s seen better days but still has a smart foyer, loads of airline staff use it, it’s immaculately clean , smells nice, has loads of facilities and I’ve had it for as little as£94 a night - we use it a lot for business- and I’m fussy!!

I stayed at the 100 Queens Gate Hotel which is part of the Hilton Curio collection. It was reasonable, well three years ago! And nice including great breakfast. It’s a short walk from South Kengsington tube, easy to walk to lot of nice places.

I'd go for an airbnb, we're staying in one next year near South Kensington and theres tons when I searched.

Ive stayed in some slightly dodgy hotels in countries like Syria, Nepal and Iran but never in this country. (Although there was one thread a few weeks ago where a couple encountered homeless people staying at the hotel and felt quite uncomfortable) You just pick your budget and location. I always pack one of thsoe devices you can buy on Amazon to lock the door from the inside. Then even someone with a pass key or key card cant get in.

Thanks all, yeah I’m aware but not overly concerned about staying in a hotel alone, I do it a lot, great to get some ideas for that area, ta!

The Ampersand is lovely. Great staff.

Iloveshihtzus · 18/11/2025 22:55

Radisson Kensington has single rooms. Small but perfect location.

Pollyanna87 · 18/11/2025 23:07

Z Hotels do single rooms and they’re great. Very small but great locations and (often) great price.

Buggabootwo · 18/11/2025 23:21

Millennium Gloucester is nice enough. You can quite often get cheap deals and it’s walking distance to the museums.

kiwiane · 18/11/2025 23:25

We stayed at the Premier Inn - don’t forget to book for the Natural History Museum.

Which Premier Inn please ?

@Teddy589
Just look at hotels/air BnB in the area, plus near tube stations a few stops away on District line. It's not a dangerous area - and a lone female traveller will be absolutely fine.

The Avonmore Olympia is quite nice and I have felt very safe there.

My daughter and I stayed at the K Hotel Kensington. Really handy location and nice area

I second the Copthorne in Kensington. Can walk to the museums but also very close to the station and Kensington High Street. I always use it when going to London.
