How do you pronounce schedule?

Shed-jool

Or

Sked-jool

Or

Other (Let's face it, this being MN, there will always be a "other" 😄)

I probably say it a multiple times a day (I'm a lawyer) and copy the majority of other lawyers who say "shed-ule". I only say "sked-ule" if a judge or more important lawyer or my client says it like that as I don't want to sound like I'm trying to contradict them (and both are correct).
However I have realised I typing this, that I say sked-ule for the verb/adjective - ie the bus was scheduled to arrive at 5, this is an unscheduled stop 💁

Shed

Fudgeytastic · 17/11/2025 20:51

Sked-uwol. I pronounce horse wrong according to everyone so 🤷‍♀️

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 17/11/2025 20:53

I think shed is UK pronunciation (which I say) and sked is US.

Nickyknackered · 17/11/2025 20:53

Shed is UK English

Sked is US English

Okiedokie123 · 17/11/2025 20:54

Shed Yule!

Ineffable23 · 17/11/2025 20:56

Shed-yule

HowDairy · 17/11/2025 20:56

There is no wrong answer, they are both correct, and used.

Shed

Sked

BlossomLeaves · 17/11/2025 20:58

Sked if I’m scheduling something.

Shed if it’s a noun. (No rhyme or reason to why though)

How do you say it?

Shed - yule because I am English.

Cross Post editing 😄

I was watching Only Connect, and Victoria CM pronounces it shed-jool.

Shed-yool

BillieWiper · 17/11/2025 21:03

Skeh-jule.
Shed- jule is also fine though!

ClarityJam · 17/11/2025 21:04

Shedyool

Sandcaaarstle · 17/11/2025 21:06

Team shed (I’ve always believed this was the English pronunciation)

olympicsrock · 17/11/2025 21:06

Sked Yule

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 17/11/2025 21:07

Shedyool as a noun, Skedyool as a verb...

DappledThings · 17/11/2025 21:11

Shed, because I'm English. Sked really grates on me.

FellowSuffereroftheAbsurd · 17/11/2025 21:11

I also flip depending on what others are saying, though more to avoid drawing attention to myself, but I naturally read it sk-, just like I'd read school, schematic, and similar Greek-to-English words.

The shed pronunciation is from the French that some parts of the UK and US picked up.

thelifeofgreece · 17/11/2025 21:12

I used to be really anti ‘sled’ until I realised that I say ‘skool’ and not ‘shool’

Tammygirl12 · 17/11/2025 21:12

sked!! from the south and speak sort of RP/southern accent.

shed sounds funny to me, like pretending to be a grown up haha

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/11/2025 21:16

Shed yule. Sked has only become popular due to US media influence. I’m currently battling DS2 with pronouncing semi as sem-eye and beta as bayta. 😩

Drillsky · 17/11/2025 21:21

Always shed, as I was taught on the scheduling unit of my master's degree. Woe betide anyone who got it wrong!

Times have moved on though and I think the American version is very common here now.
