Manchester airport T2 pick up help please

I'm collecting a friend on a Sunday afternoon flight at T2 Manchester airport.
I want to park the car and meet them in arrivals.
Looks like T2 West multi storey is the best option.
If anyone can answer these questions I'd be grateful...

  • is that car park likely to be busy on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm
  • is it advisable to pre-book? (The price it has given me for pre-book is twice the price it has given for 'turn up')
  • I assume the 'turn up' price is what you would pay if you just go there and don't pre-book?
  • the first floor in T2 west car park is two hour max parking, if the flight is delayed do I have to move the car to another floor which allows up to eight hours?
Anything else I need to be aware of? I am very anxious about this as I have mobility issues (no blue badge) and the person I am collecting has never flown before. Manchester airport is quite intimidating Any help gratefully received

I have picked people up from Manchester airport plenty of times and never pre-booked. I've never struggled to find a space.
Do you have far to travel ? Are you able to wait until the flight has taken off from wherever it's coming from before you set off? If it's in the air it can't be that delayed 😊

Yes the turn up price is what you pay if you don't pre-book.
You can park on a higher floor anyway and get the lift down. I don't think I've ever parked on the ground floor, and didn't realise it was restricted to 2 hours. But also have never had a delay of 2 hours when picking someone up.

I picked DP up from Manchester the other day. My advice would be to look at the arrivals board online to get the ETA, there's also information about the estimated time to get through passport control and collect luggage if relevant.

There's an Asda about 5/10 mins drive away in Wythenshawe, if you're travelling and you're early you can wait there until they're nearly ready for pickup. There's also another retail park car park if Asda is closed, look for evidence of barriers on Google street view, I can't remember if there are any. Remember you can't stop anywhere on the airport site unless in a car park.

The upper floors in the car parks usually have far more free spaces than the lower so its quicker to just drive straight up to park and not bother driving around all lower levels. I just normally drive straight to the roof and then get the lift to where I need to go.
