Rapid maxillary expanders, recovery and food?

My 10yo is due this, we are trying to work out timing and I have lots of questions… hoping others have gone through this!! They get put in over 3 appointments, 1 per week. Do the procedures need recovery time? Can he for example play basketball or swim in the 24 hours after? And how much did you have to adjust food? I feel like this will be a massive pain when it’s already a challenge constantly thinking of healthy food for an active sporty boy…

Ask your orthodontist OP, they will be the ones best placed to give medical advice.

I know, he had the appointment today. I’m now trying to think about when should we schedule it, would it knock him out for a game that day or mean he couldn’t do a singing concert 3 days later, and what the practical implications of food are. The orthodontist didn’t list 200 foods to cut out and 500 that are ok. Eg some reddit comments say spaghetti and ramen noodles get caught and are choking hazards, and peaches need chopping.
