When l left college in 1977( yes I'm that old) l went to work in an office for a wool manufacturing company ( Sirdar).. two of my sisters worked there.. l hated every minute .. l trained to be an NNEB.. So l left and got a job in San Josè in California looking after two young children.
Two years later l came home became a motorcycle instructor.. my favourite job ever. I was a biker and loved being outside... no matter the weather.
After l had my eldest daughter I became a SAHM and when she went to school l worked part time in a SEN school as a TA.
When the office was short staffed they asked me to go in.. by this the time we had the World Wide Web and l was very good with the computer.
But l hated it..
Luckily when l had my second daughter l could be a SAHM... once again.
Then when she went to school l worked once again for local Road Safety .. being outside..
I know office work has changed such a lot.
I'm just curious..

I am a daily shit storm shield. I prevent shit from hitting the fan. Often serious shit that would spray far and wide. I sometimes have to travel to different locations to manage brewing storms, so have a bit of variety. I’m not sure I would want to be full time in the office all week.

I work in the office of a large factory. My team plan the production and manage the resources. We are all expected to be in the office 5 days a week but we all have laptops so we could work from home if we needed to.

I work at the head office of a large high street health and beauty retailer. I’ve been there nearly 20 years so have worked in a few different teams/functions. We are now expected to be back in the office full time after years of home working/hybrid since Covid, but we all have laptops so are able to work from home if required.

I work in Registry Services for an online university. I go into the office one day a month. Previously I worked on campus four days a week/one day from home for our local university doing a similar role It's mainly governance and admin type stuff.

I work in insurance (commercial, so for businesses and corporations). I left school and went straight into it as I'd done my year 11 work experience at a local company, who were hiring school leavers.

16 years later I'm still here, although I've changed companies several times!
