I don’t know if it’s just Scotland or UK wide but all of the gritter/snow ploughs on the road have name and the names make me happy 😆. Ones I’ve heard recently -

Spready Mercury
Salt Disney
You’re a blizzard Harry

whats the best ones you have heard? 😆

You might like the gritter tracker where you can zoom in to see who’s out and about, including ready spready go, for your ice only, and Gritney Spears.

Gruff Gritty

martha79 · 16/11/2025 07:21

Spready Mercury is my favourite, and Sir David Attenbrrrr also in Scotland, but I enjoyed seeing Jessica Ennis-Chill and Gritchard Thawley around the streets of Sheffield last year.

JimberlyMcJimbleFace · 16/11/2025 07:46

I've surprised that I have not seen this one yet...

GrittyMcGritFace

...there's still time, though!

So it’s not just a Scotland thing? Glad other nations get to enjoy the humour

Lord coldemort, coldfinger 😁. I wonder why they don’t all have names?!

Bahahaha those names are hilarious, I love the Gritter tracker site, "I want to break freeze", "Buzz Iceclear", "Skid Vicious" 😂😂😂

They might be new fleet waiting on names. My council has 4 new ones and the schools just took part in a competition to name them. Judging was first week in November and winners/new names will soon be announced.

Firefly100 · 16/11/2025 09:07

How did I go through life not knowing this! These are fantastic! Thanks OP

liveforsummer · 16/11/2025 09:36

Basil Salty 🤣. Any idea what the grey ones are?

OP posts:
MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 16/11/2025 11:53

Grey ones are parked up at depot. Yellow ones are out on the roads and live tracker shows their current location. You can also see their trail on the map showing roads they have gritted.

Naming thinks catches my attention. The passenger assistance vehicle names at Central Station, Glasgow are Lorraine, Mariah and Olly the Octopus.

I know of some classrooms who have named glue sticks. "Bob has lost his hat!" gets more response than, "There's a missing lid." 🤣
