Hallway/stairwell – two-tone paint with or without dado rail?

I’m repainting my hallway and stairwell and can’t decide whether to add a dado rail or just go for a clean two-tone look.

The plan is white on top and a blue shade on the bottom. My house leans more towards a modern style, so I’m leaning away from installing a dado rail and just having the two colours meet cleanly. But part of me wonders if a dado rail would make it look more “finished” or whether it would just feel fussy and out of place.

Has anyone done two-tone without a rail in a modernish house? Does it look intentional and contemporary, or does the absence of a dado make it look like something’s missing?

Photos attached. As you will see, I’m literally in the middle of painting and need to make a decision! Last photo with the yellow is an example of two tone paint with no dado.

I’ve done two tone in hallway and dining room with no dado rail. I think it looks fine ( of course!). In the hall i did paint a thin ‘border’ band in a third colour. Just did the two colour blocking in dining
