Best cancellation apps for re-booking driving test?

Ineedcoffeenow · 12/11/2025 19:21

I’ve followed advice and managed to get a driving test booked (for miles away) to then use one of the cancellation apps to rebook it within our local area. I’m currently using testi, but that doesn’t automatically book a test. What would people recommend? I’ve downloaded Test Hunter, which books automatically, but unsure as to whether there are better ones.

Just bumping this up….

None. They’re all a total waste of money. I’ve been trying for months to get DC’s test moved from April next year as they desperately
need to drive for work.

total shit show.

No apps.

Get the chrome extension for free and follow the instructions https://www.reddit.com/r/LearnerDriverUK/comments/15waafm/chrome_extension_to_help_book_tests_move_forward/

Alternatively, just buy one off a driving instructor for £200. They’re the ones booking them all up in the first place!

That’s disappointing. I’ve read good things about testi, but the fact it can’t booking tests automatically must mean you’re up against auto-bookers. Maybe back to getting up at 6am each Monday!

Those things are money making scams. Just do it yourself. As you've already got a date you'll be going into a different part of the portal when you say you want to change it. Keep that window open and refresh it until a slot comes up, then book it. I mean, have it open on a split/different screen so it isn't too tedious. Takes about half an hour.

Ineedcoffeenow · 13/11/2025 11:56

There have been no test dates at 6am on a Monday for 2 weeks now. DD managed to get one the first week of trying when she booked her first test. Now there’s nothing—not even on a Monday morning. She gets on to the page to add details almost immediately—she’s not been put in a queue. However, there’s nothing.

I forgot to say that two tests have come up on testi, but DD wasn’t looking at her phone so they’d gone.

I’ve been trying for months now and the portal keeps crashing…… we had one booked in a different city for March but managed to get it moved to our home town for April.

its an absolute disaster and our instructor <who’s taught all our kids, so we trust him> says it’s impossible for everyone Confused

We used a website called driving test cancellations.

We heard nothing for a couple of weeks then got notification that it had found him a test 2 weeks away. Thank goodness he passed 2nd time.

It's a total disaster. I'm so glad we're done with driving tests, it was so stressful.

Ineedcoffeenow · 13/11/2025 22:38

It’s an awful mess. I’m obsessively watching my phone in case something turns up. I’ve seen one that automatically books tests, which is £15 per week. If it works, it will save us a fortune, but I’ve had mixed reports on them.

I was told if you book one miles away then you can just call up and change location without issue, if this is true I don’t know

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. You need to book any test and then use apps to try to get a cancellation, but that (obviously) only works if there are some cancellations at your chosen site. So far, it’s not working for us.

My eldest just passed his test today...but he sat his test at a centre miles away from home. Has been practising there one day a week for the past five weeks.

We didn't go anywhere near the apps. Only booked a test directly through the DVSA website.

He sat the test in his own car.

You need to reframe this. Rather than trying to get a really local test date look further afield.

Ineedcoffeenow · 26/11/2025 23:05

We’re checking three test areas—none of them have had any tests for a month. She doesn’t have her own car so can’t go too far away as the instructor won’t agree to it.

We have found out that one of the examiners (there’s only 2) has left so I’m guessing it’s maybe due to that.

DS had to drive approx 80 miles each week to practice in the town he sat the test in recently. Couldn't get a test any closer. We did try. I was continually checking the DVSA website to no avail. It was very stressful.

This whole fiasco better improve for everyone trying to learn as I have three more who will likely want to learn in the future!

Good luck in your quest OP. I am sure your DD will get there. DS started learning July 2024 and just passed this week so took over a year all in.

user1476613140 · 27/11/2025 11:18

DH drove DS to the test centre. We didn't bother with the instructor for the test as DS bought his own car months ago. His instructor wouldn't have travelled 80 miles to accompany any students sitting a test. He only stays local for all the tests.

Please consider buying a car for your DD or can she borrow your car for the test?

Ineedcoffeenow · 27/11/2025 17:58

Well, we finally got a test in 3 weeks at our local centre. Something must have changed as about 12 tests came through at the same time. Testi alerted us to some times, but we did it direct through the DVSA in the end.

That is a great outcome. Really pleased that your DD will get a test really soon. Three weeks is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Wishing her lots of luck🤞

ChocoChocoLatte · 27/11/2025 23:46

The DVSA stil keeps crashing for us & neither of the apps are coming up with anything.

We’re trying 4 different test centres but don’t have the luxury of practising in them all just in case.

i have a laptop day tomorrow so will try again.

DD1s wasn’t this fecking stressful during bloody lockdown Confused

Really hope you strike it lucky. I was in your position just last month struggling to get a test date. It was keeping me awake at night the stress of it all. The tide has to turn at some point and more tests should become available. Keep looking, something will show up 🤞🤞

andanotherproblem · 28/11/2025 20:04

Hope this is at least helpful to someone but you can pay a driving instructor to get one for you, I did and she found me one within the week

ChocoChocoLatte · 28/11/2025 23:34

@andanotherproblemwe have asked ours and he can’t. He’s taught all of our kids so trust him implicitly.

boobies1234 · 29/11/2025 11:21

We booked her one miles away, and had the testi app but couldn’t get anything close to home. I will admit we ended up paying a company to find as a more local one. Really struggled with that decision but she needs to drive for work, and had tried for months.

ChocoChocoLatte · 27/01/2026 11:42

@boobies1234which one please - we are having a mare and DD needs to drive for work!

we initially had one booked nowhere near us, managed to swap to one locally but much later in the year.

she downloaded an app, didn’t put in an ‘earliest’ date and it’s now sniped her one for next wk - she can’t do it (exams) & we now loose her original spot in April AND our booking fee due to it being within the next 10 days.

I spend all day every day refreshing the sodding site.

This has been going on since sodding October.

user21071989 · 26/03/2026 08:26

@boobies1234 which one please? Struggling to find a slot in the next few weeks. Have tried everything and its so frustrating!
