Gift ideas for a 70th birthday please

Morning. My lovely neighbour is turning 70 soon and I'd like to give her a gift, but I'm a bit stumped and would appreciate some ideas! She is a retired English teacher, lives on her own. She's not interested in cooking or gardening. Top budget is about £50.
Thanks!

Is there a Salon you know she uses? If so maybe a voucher for there.

Does she like a tipple? If so a fancy bottle of wine/spirit?

whitepuffyclouds · 12/11/2025 09:57

A heated throw perhaps if she doesn't already have one.

Homemade hamper?
Book token
Nice mug
Hot chocolate
Posh biscuits
Mini bottle of wine
Chocolates

A soft wrap/shawl

A salon voucher is actually a nice idea, I'm not sure where she goes, I can ask.

Nice ideas, thanks! A book token I had considered, but the shawl might be a bit different.

I was wondering about a hamper, but I don't know exactly what to put in it, and don't want to get it wrong, iyswim.

Thanks, I'm not sure if she has one, but I hadn't considered that.

I did Salon voucher idea for my Aunties 60th, asked her where she gets her hair done in a casual “it always looks nice” way, as not to tip them off on the idea 🤣

Now that's a great idea, I was wondering how to approach it!

Afternoon tea, annual subscription to a magazine, friends of a museum, a ticket to see something or two and take her.

OrangeAxolotyl · 12/11/2025 10:45

These ideas are great, thanks

Picturehouse Cinema voucher if you have one close

Theatre Tokens

Decent bottle of fizz

Decent bottle of Gin / vodka

OrangeAxolotyl · 12/11/2025 11:08

Cinema or theatre is a nice idea, I'm not sure about her drinking habits or how to ask!

Make her a voucher for you to take her out to cinema/afternoon tea/lunch at nice garden centre type place/ etc......

She's not interested in gardening, and to be honest I hate the idea of Afternoon Tea, although I don't know if she does!
However, I think the idea of a personalised voucher is actually a really lovely thought, thanks.

As someone who is heading towards 70 I'd hate a heated throw or shawl! Book token would be perfect

A retired English teacher might like these, but you’d have to know her taste twentythreeliving.co.uk/products/black-beech-book-worm-mittens-in-bubblegum-kelly-green

Book tokens or John Lewis vouchers. The latter can of course be spent at Waitrose, including online.

For god's sake no heated throws, shawls or bed socks.

OrangeAxolotyl · 12/11/2025 15:46

Thanks 😊. I think the JL voucher might be a good shout. Similarly vouchers for the theatre or cinema.

Why? I'd love a cosy shawl and I'm 60
Don't be so dismissive of ideas 🙄
